If you're going down that route, then the same question could be asked why Medel - if he really is the second coming - would move to a just promoted Championship side, who (with all undue respect) should be considered one of the relegation battlers, when he should have his choice of takers. £11m isn't much for a defensive midfielder, but there's a reason Spurs went for your other target Capoue and not him.

Because a player like him would never stand out in the lower leagues. He's a player who is more effective in the Premier League then he is in League 1 or 2.
As you go down the leagues it's scrappier, and his own personal strengths are not as useful at that level. He struggled to impose himself into Jackett's Swansea team. He got shipped out on the wing a few times which was never going to work.
Once Martinez came in and we changed our style of play, he really grew into the role in the centre of midfield. In a passing side he absolutely excels and has got better and better as the club has got better. He's not the complete footballer certainly-he has limitations but we play him to his strengths, which are certainly top level.
I've no idea why you think he is playing above his means. We've spent at least £50m on our team since coming up and he's still retaining his place. And it's not just Swansea fans. He regularly gets praise from pundits and fans of other teams too. | | | |
