Fulham v Bristol Rovers, Division 2, Saturday 4th September 1976. The attendance was 21,127, which was over double the previous League match at Craven Cottage, to see which player make his debut for Fulham (he scored the only goal of the game)?

Bit of a surprise. I'd forgotten about this.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

George Best ? Rodney Marsh ?

Yep. One of them :-)
And here's another from my super book of footie facts what Santa got me:
Back in the fifties Stoke broke a record for the number of replays it took to win an FA Cup tie (subsequently equalled a couple of times) But which team did they eventually beat at the fifth attempt?

I can clearly recall Chelsea and Burnley playing each other five times as well, late 50s I think, before Chelsea finally won 2-0.

Aye, it's bury. Surprised they haven't included it among their honours.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

There`s a whole swag of FA Cup odds and sods. Two blokes who scored seven goals in a cup tie and ended up on the losing team for instance. One involved a Qualifying Round where his team lost 8-7,Chesham United I think, the other one a bit more bizarre.

was one Denis Law for City against Luton? Scored something like five in an abandoned game and two in the losing rearranged match.

Yes,Denis Law scored all six goals for City against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, but the game was abandoned with City winning 6-2 because of torrential rain midway through the second half. When the game was played again,City lost 3-1 with Law scoring City`s goal. Think it was 1960/61.

I think George Best also scored 6 against Northampton in an FA Cup match.

Not something we seem to see these days.
