When We Beat Coventry 09:54 - Jan 4 with 914 views | mikehunt | Back then (1970 ?) I was ill and couldn’t go. But I had the bedroom window open and could hear the crowd. I lived in Newbold at the time. Now, my question is, there were rumours that Coventry had an equaliser ruled out. A shot of theirs was supposed to have hit a stansion inside the goal and bounced straight out, leading the ref to assume the ball had hit the woodwork. Can anybody confirm or deny this? So, one of our finest hours. We have come close to an upset in recent years. High time for some true cup glory. Come on Dale We can do this!

When We Beat Coventry on 10:14 - Jan 4 with 854 views | DiddyDave | It was a Monday afternoon from memory, was it because there was an electricity strike and they couldn`t guarantee the floodlights? If it was,it must`ve been a two o clock kick off as it would`ve been well dark by the end of the game if it was three o clock.

Yes, early kick off. The winter sun was just going down as the game ended

Correct. Had a great view of that standing by the pitchside wall on Willbutts Lane near Pearl St. Close but no cigar - Jeff Blockley header if memory serves.

You could see it coming before he actually headed the ball. The bar was shaking for a while after. The ball came down on the line and there appeared to be an almighty goal mouth scramble but somehow the ball stayed out. This was right at the end of the game. I'd watched the first half from the old Kop between the Main stand and the Church Inn end. I had a great view of the Norman Whitehead run and cross that led to the David Cross goal. So somehow I got from there to behind the goals in the Sandy Lane at half time. You could do that then. [Post edited 4 Jan 2020 10:32]

No power strike. Coventry’s manager refused to play under our floodlights and the FA let him get away with it.

We stood near the corner flag left side of the main stand and met up with Denis Isherwood,my best mate from the Tech who I hadn`t seen since we all left in 1965. So four ex Tech lads and as we all know,it turned out to be a good afternoon.
