Player Interviews: Matt Gilks on 11:13 - May 2 with 1521 views | suffolkdale | Yet another fascinating insight - an excellent read. Strange really I never rated Matt Gilks, now I know why - I was also born and raised in Chadderton but my dad was from Newhey so the Dale have always been my team. At times it was a lonely existence surrounded by Latics supporters and my bus journey to Spotland actually took me past Boundary Park. However I was in it for the long term which is why like so many people the last decade has been particularly special..... [Post edited 2 May 2020 11:16]

Player Interviews: Matt Gilks on 11:49 - May 2 with 1490 views | jonahwhereru | Thanks Fitz. I always loved playing in goal, and was undoubtedly the best in my school. I have to quantify that mind by saying I want to a school for the disabled. But once that calliper came of there was no stopping me. So interesting that work rate is mentioned time and again by Gilks. I think most of us would assume the keepers probably had it easier in their training sessions. He was right to move on and for the best of reasons. But given how many games he played before he left, just imagine how many games he could have played in had he stayed long term.

Player Interviews: Matt Gilks on 10:07 - May 3 with 1150 views | jpresto | A great read about a player who served the club well. Whenever i hear his name cant help thinking about him clearing out the forward at Chester when clear on goal and getting away with it. A red card every day of the week!
Player Interviews: Matt Gilks on 13:49 - May 3 with 1038 views | wroughtironron | Always respected Griffiths - at 6ft 4" he was imposing, dangerous with headers in the opponents penalty box, and a hard guy prepared to get physical.
Player Interviews: Matt Gilks on 15:10 - May 3 with 964 views | foreverhopefulDale | Yet another excellent player interview. I liked Matt Gilks, and honestly thought he should have become number one earlier than he did, because I thought Neil Edwards’s form had gone down a bit for a while, and believed that Gilks was ready to take over. Nether less we had two good goalies to choose from, just I thought Gilks should have been No one earlier. If he had, he might have benefited from Edwards a bit more, was there ever a possibility of Edwards becoming a Goal Keeping player coach?

Who was the striker he cleaned out at Chester and if I remember right he was injured for a good while after that "challenge" by Gilks?

Out of all these interviews you’ve done, who would you say was the most likeable and down-to-earth? And who was the one you’d rather avoid?

It wouldn’t be fair to rate them like that, as anyone who gave up their time to be interviewed at length I’m eternally grateful to. Some were less guarded and more open than others, such as Gilks, for example, and others were more direct, such as Graham Barrow and Paul Simpson, but they all gave me time, so there’ll be no complaint from me. It’s those who messed me about or hinted at payment that have coloured my view: John Hollins, Paul Butler, Adam LeFondre and Grant Holt to name a few.
