RIP on 12:34 - Jul 11 with 2133 views | D_Alien | Pioneered the practise of centre-backs standing on the opposition goal-line at corners to impede the keeper, a tactic which lead to him scoring in the 1970 FA cup final. Alf Ramsey had the foresight to realise he'd be the perfect foil for Bobby Moore RIP Jack

Yes,a typical Leeds tactic that had us all baying for his blood. Realistically, just summat that nobody else had yet thought of. But you don`t play 773 games for a top team if you`re not a good player and Jack certainly was. Not many left now, brother Bobby,Stiles,Hurst,Hunt and Cohen,I think of the 1966 World Cup winning team. Haway Jackie. RIP.
RIP on 13:27 - Jul 11 with 2092 views | judd | RIP Jack. I watched the 1966 World Cup Final in full recently and was amazed at just how good a player he was. I spent a lot of time in Ireland in the 90s and he was absolutely revered over there.

RIP on 18:27 - Jul 11 with 1864 views | foreverhopefulDale | Magnificent player, one of the best central defenders ever, a brilliant partner for Moore for England and Hunter for Leeds and England. Did a brilliant job for Ireland as their manager, getting the very best out of the players. He was also loyal to workers in struggle, helping out strikers including miners.

RIP on 20:13 - Jul 11 with 1780 views | tony_roch975 | My favourite memory is Sir Alf saying Jack wasn't the best centre half in England but he was the best centre half for the England team - a salutary reminder football is a team game and the best team is the aim, not the best 11 players.

RIP on 21:41 - Jul 11 with 1710 views | todmordendale | I always thought his name was Frank Charlton. I remember David Coleman once saying that he was Frank following an interview at a World Cup.
RIP on 23:35 - Jul 11 with 1650 views | DiddyDave | The famous Ashington Charlton brothers were of course related to the equally famous Milburn family through their mother Cissie, nee Milburn. Bobby was regularly seen at Tuesday night Dale games watching Uncle Stan play right back or occasionally centre forward in the sixties.
