Wasn't Paul Williams a bit crap too from memory, especially for his size, its all a bit of a blur from that time to be honest though, do remember a few very good players back then though too | | | |

There was something very amiss about Paul Williams. He could be a fantastic target man, and had demonstrated this at other clubs, but he soon seemed to lose all interest in playing for Dale, and was often unavailable through injury. The exception was when we reached the latter stages of a cup and suddenly he announced himself fit , but wasn't selected iirc.
Tait was different. Seldom injured although he played as if his boots were tied together. Just a rubbish player. I'm sure that some Bristol Rovers fans had t shirts printed mocking him as a "football genius" !! | | | |

Stockport had two at the time, one was a full back. Williams the striker came to us on loan scored two great goals v Bury and Crewe and there was a clamour to sign him permanently.
Once we did he was awful, bar a good goal at Scarborough and as a keeper at Blackpool in the Autowindcsreens. |  |

Didn't Williams do something at York away one year like miss an open net or something equally as talented, seem to remember Flounders scoring a late winner away at York too many moons ago, unless my memory is playing tricks again | | | |

That Blackpool game was one of the best away performances seen in a long while too (injury to Clarke notwithstanding). |  |
