Naming the 1996/97 midfield gives me nightmares.

Thank god for St Alex.

In all seriousness, signing Holt as a squad player could be a very good move. To make it a very good move we'd have to not pay him very much though (or guarantee much football) and that would be an impossibility. Saw him a few times at Wigan and he was awful. My youngest son did meet him once before a match as he was on a Wigan Athletic football course. He says he was really nice and they talked about Rochdale.

I think he'll probably return home and play for Carlisle.

I'd hate us to sign Holty and he be anything less than what he was last time. If its possible to have a childhood hero who's actually younger than you, then it's him, and I wouldn't want those memories tarnished in any way.

I've already gone through that pain when I told every single Wigan fan I came in contact with just how good Holt was. Then watching him play really hurt. Having said that, I suspect he still has some good football in him .

Whenever I've seen him he seems to have lost mobility - i think he would slow down the type of play we strive for.

To be fair our style of play is generally slow anyway , would be worth a trial or a short term deal till may at least.

^Agreed. Our football is generally quite slow these days. I think Holt would do a good job here. Dreaming a bit though.

No, just no! Overweight, slow, a shadow of what he was. Oh, and NO!

Same problem myself with Huddersfield and Wigan supporting mates. If it was 6/7 years ago I'd love him back as he is now he's over the hill sadly. I'd expect him to end up at Carlisle perhaps or Barrow. Somewhere near home and a lower level than L1.

If you could have players back right now, and ready for 2016/2017 who would you have?

Mine would be Craig Dawson-Jack O.Connell and Glen Murray..

Reg Jenkins, Conrad Logan, Alan Reeves, Steve Taylor for starters.

For 2016/17 season? Stan Milburn and Reg best ever Rochdale players would not qualify.
Sad but RIP both these superb players.

His family moved back up north ages ago. Think he spend the latter part of his spell at Norwich away from his children.

No longer a Norwich legend then.
