Rosetta 14:20 - Nov 12 with 2771 views | D_Alien | After 10 years spent travelling 4 billion miles, space probe Rosetta has released the landing craft Philae to descend onto a comet 300 million miles away. Due to touch down around 4pm, with confirmation around half an hour later if all the potential hazards have been avoided. Probably the biggest event in space exploration since the moon landings 45 years ago, and a lot of the technical development was done in the UK. Anyone else keeping track of this?

Arf! But surely they wouldn't try to fool us by making a giant rubber duck this time?

Now lets hope it can drill its way into the surface and secure itself. By comparison, the technicalities of this operation makes the moon landing look like child's play. Fantastic achievement.

Possibly - one of his testicles flew into space after an air shot

Rosetta on 14:01 - Sep 30 with 812 views | D_Alien | So, it's over and mission accomplished, after almost 12 years and having travelled 8 billion km to catch up with, then track comet 67P on it's journey through the solar system at temperatures of nearly -100C The technology and ingenuity required to do that is astounding It's lander Philae was lost, then recently found hidden beneath a cliff Final picture (of more than 100,000) taken 10 seconds before impact http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-37520420 [Post edited 30 Sep 2016 14:09]
