Very worrying though that the writer concludes that BBM's contract was extended by "one or two" Directors who thought that it would be in the clubs best interests, but who subsequently decided it wasn't the best time to announce it because of results. Hardly correct protocol. In fact, possibly illegal and cowardly. I suppose the minutes of the Board meeting will reveal all, but it's not the way the club should be run. I suppose it explains why Rawlinson didn't know.
Mark Hodkinson: Inside the Boardroom Pt. IV on 14:51 - Mar 24 with 2359 views | Sandyman | Well, we've learnt more about the goings on behind the contract extension that dare not speak its name in this article than anyone within the club has been prepared to reveal to its supporters. Supporters who have politely asked when and why it was given. Two weeks after the Fans Forum, still no proper explanation from the club. Last Thursday, the 18th, Dale Trust met with the club. They reported back to members, "We raised the issue of the extension of Brian Barry-Murphy’s contract and the way it was announced at the forum with it coming across to those watching the forum like a Club Director didn’t know the answer to the question. We were assured this was not the case (and this had been a “genuine mix up” with the answer). The Club discussed this with us and informed us that they had already prepared a response to Supporters with regard to when the contract was signed and the reasons behind the delay in announcing it and would be contacting Supporters early in the next week." A "genuine mix-up" of something that may have been known within the inner circles of the club for 3 months that could be cleared up on the night, or was deliberately not dealt with? Have any supporters been contacted "early this week" with an explanation from the club? People will have their own views as to whether BBM's contract should've been extended or not. The lack of honesty, communication and, let's not mince words here, the deceit towards the club's supporters on this issue is ignominy at a level we've never seen here before. Whoever has been dealing with this matter for the club is clearly not fit for purpose. [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 22:59]

Mark Hodkinson: Inside the Boardroom Pt. IV on 15:01 - Mar 24 with 2327 views | 442Dale | That point about the Trust being told: “The Club discussed this with us and informed us that they had already prepared a response to Supporters with regard to when the contract was signed and the reasons behind the delay in announcing it and would be contacting Supporters early in the next week." Really hope that the Trust see that, yet again, being told something only has meaning when it happens. But they know.

Mark Hodkinson: Inside the Boardroom Pt. IV on 15:16 - Mar 24 with 2279 views | TomRAFC | Sandyman is right to use the word deceit and Mark was right to identify that many of us saw a possible contract expiry as a sprig of hope. The board have made it clear that they read the forums and will have watched on, secretly knowing that this hope was already crushed. If that's not playing people for fools then I don't know what is. If the contract was agreed after those 2 convincing wins, as suggested, then it should have been announced there and then. They could only have held off announcing it due to a downturn in form if they had held off announcing it in the first place. I get the feeling that other stones remain unturned and if Mark has any further observations then I'd love to hear them. I'm sure the club have been hoping certain things will blow over but quite the opposite has happened. The elephant in the room has grown into a herd.

I doubt they'll be quite so interested now following our form up until the Lincoln game.

I say yanks as i cannot remember their names apart from Bert n Ernie come to mind.. Part 4 is very interesting and with reference to the trust meeting board and then the trust announces a fans charter(wouldnt Dale Supporters Charter sound better) i wont hold my breath on that as they are not saying much at all since the forum.....

Mark Hodkinson: Inside the Boardroom Pt. IV on 16:51 - Mar 24 with 2057 views | 49thseason | I remain convinced there is a take-over in the offing. I think the Board has run out of options financially because there is no one with the wealth to add significant funds to the pot.... The resignation of the Chairman and the discussions with Altman and Marcelli seemed to coincide. The collapse of a possible deal with City for Baah probably didn't help, the money from the EFL was less than expected, then the Americans delayed their acceptance of Directorships, maybe because the fit and proper test for owners is stricter than for Directors and takes longer? Maybe the 2 Americans are busy in NY raising funds or looking for a high net worth backer. Add in the Sporting Director, the renewal of the BBM contract and it appears as though the stage is being set prior to an announcement. Maybe plan B is to start afresh in L2 where the perhaps limited funds might go much further than in L1, better to be near or at the top of L2 than yet more struggle in L1? I just hope someone has any sort of plan that goes further than "just getting by".

If what I was told is true, then yes. I referenced it here back in December: “Brian the manager has potential. Other clubs can see it. In fact, I heard, via agent gossip, that he was recently on the managerial shortlist of a club that has three times the following of Rochdale.” https://rochdaleafcnews.com/2020/12/20/what-now-for-brian-barry-murphy/

I read an interesting article in The Athletic about experienced former managers becoming the assistant coach. You might have read it yourself. I think you also said in one of your articles BBM could do with an experienced head to help him.

I said that in the above article, yes. I still believe that would be beneficial, but the time to do it effectively (for this season at any rate), has been and gone. Staying up or going down will be down to BBM on his own now.

Not sure if there's been any timescale set for getting the advertised Sporting Director position filled? You seem to indicate it'll not be before the end of the season, but in any case the incumbent would probably take longer than a few weeks to start making an impact since it's not (presumably) a direct hands-on role regarding training, formation, etc.

Just an immediate financial burden on a cash strapped club.

That’s why if it was going to be done, it should’ve been done back in December, if not earlier. Getting someone in now wouldn’t work for all the reasons you mention. That would mean summer would be the time to revisit this post. Interestingly, I see Portsmouth are considering a similar post, even if the Cowleys remain in situ. [Post edited 24 Mar 2021 19:25]
