I can recall the 3rd round v 1st divn Charlton. The England goalkeeper Sam Bertram played. At one point he took the ball to the half way line before kicking it forward. I seem to recall the admission for juniors in the Pearl St end was 9 old pence.

Sounds very reasonable although that depends on what the average kids weekly pocket money was back then.

Carrying a golf bag for 3 hours round the 18 holes of Rochdale G.C. got you a 3 shillings and 6 old pence 'fee.' | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I take it that was a popular way for a young lad in Rochdale to earn himself a bit of cash back then. Was it usually one game a week or multiple?

It was a hard way to earn a bit of cash. Don't forget very few or no golf trolleys in those days. One round a week was enough exercise and it kept you in Woodbines. or pay your admission for 4 Dale games.

MY first memories of admission prices ( first game 1953) were 2/6(12 and a half p) for adults and a shilling(5p) for us youngsters. Memory may be playing tricks but think that is right
