60 years ago tomorrow.1st leg of the final. 2 down within 15 minutes, as I remember both errors by goalkeeper Ted Burgin, a great effort nonetheless, after beating Southampton, Charlton, Doncaster, York and Blackburn Rovers.

Thanks for that, the physical side healed but the mental side of the game never healed. I was only an amateur, my livelihood didn’t depend on it. Think about what it is to be a pro and go through that experience. The same thing happened to Tony Buck. That’s why I cut players coming back from a serious injury a fair amount of slack.

11,000 at the first leg of the final at Spotland. Two days later Dale played their final home game of the season v southport in front of 1900. Fickle football fans are nothing new!
