'Versatile man' off to Stevenage on 10:35 - Jun 16 with 3802 views | Toffeemanc | Looking at the squad from last season and the players we released as well as the player being described as versatile I would guess this is probably Matt Done.

'Versatile man' off to Stevenage on 10:41 - Jun 16 with 3766 views | AtThePeake | Max Clark is the man Nixon refers to behind his ridiculous pay wall. He's been wrong before though. Jordy Hiwula, anyone? Wouldn't be too disappointed to see Clark leave, but presuming O'Connell leaves too as expected, it doesn't reflect well on RS if all four players we've offered deals to decide to leave.

I personally wouldn't be too concerned by that. I think most of us would accept COK and EOC were going to leave regardless and Dooley had the guarantee of a two-year deal at Harrogate, whereas we may have only offered a year. Clark may well have been offered a longer-term contract elsewhere too. Looking at it positively, all three signings so far have said how impressed they've been with RS' plans for the season ahead. Clark was alright last season, nothing more, nothing less. We can do better and probably need to if we insist on sticking with wing backs.
'Versatile man' off to Stevenage on 11:19 - Jun 16 with 3635 views | 49thseason | And we still have Aidy White! Who knows, pre season may transform him into a proper player.... I'm not holding my breath but stranger things have happened. I thought he did OK when he did play, just seems to cry off after the mildest of knocks.. maybe he needs a couple of paracetamols before every game!

I don't see how this reflects badly on Stockdale, he has a budget and needs to sign a number of players, he made offers that he could afford and reflected the value of those players to the squad and their "replacability" with other players. For some players, money will be the driving force, length of contract will suit others, and for some, travelling time and housing will be factors. If players decide they can do better then thats their decision and there probably isnt much the manager can do if he is to stay within his budget. Put simply, there isnt much loyalty in football. If players were as loyal to their clubs as they were in the '60s, pre-seasons and tranfer windows wouldn't be as frantic.

Of course, all four players may have decided the offers available elsewhere were simply better for their career, be that through playing in a higher league or earning more money or a longer deal. They also may not have wanted to play under the manager. Both are possible. A lot of people seem to think EOC stayed at Dale last summer because Brian Barry-Murphy was still the manager despite the fact that most of us expected him to have better offers available elsewhere. If we think a player can reject other offers to play for a manager they want to play for, it stands to reason that they reject offers because they don't want to play for a manager too. I'm not saying that 100% is the case, but I'm not saying it's as simple as 'the other offers were better' either because the fact is either could be true. If I saw another club in our league offer deals to four players and all four of those players left (and not necessarily to clubs higher in the food chain either in the case of Harrogate and Stevenage) then it would raise an eyebrow I think.

Might have been looking too much into it but noticed Dooley didn't thank the management team in the same way he singled out his teammates and fans in his exiting message. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Perhaps not, but if you've been offered a deal that doesn't match your valuation of yourself, plus not getting guarantees of playing time or vibes to that effect, one can understand a player not being effusive about the manager I reckon RS had improved Dooley, he almost taught him the value of putting in a tackle now and then

I wouldnt be too concerned what Dooley does/doesn't say,he's a bang average player who's certainly made the most of pretty limited talent, he's very much replaceable

I agree, even after his 2018 shift against Bratfud, as I explained in some detail to TVOS in a separate thread.
