It looked a certain free-kick for us when Vidal went forward on the right and was taken down but the ref didn't see it???? There were no other players around. Vidal stayed on the deck for some time before he eventually got up (then subbed for Rose after a few minutes). Both teams played passing football in the first half and seemed to cancel each other out. Hogan must have slipped to the ground ten times in the first half. He was wheel spinning such was his eagerness to sprint about from a standing start. Chesterfield having a pop at us on a number of occasions from long range. Just before half time they got a corner...Roberts bends the ball with pin-point accuracy into the centre just in front of goal, and Banks had a simple header. He was unopposed, left unmarked. Either Lillis should have picked him up or an outfield player. Poor defending.
In the second half we had our chances and when Done ran, and ran and ran with the ball, he released it towards Henderson and on the way deflected off one of their players. Hendo despatched it with relative ease into the back of the net. Ref gives a goal but then their players start pointing at the lino. After much heated debate the goal was disallowed and it turned out to be the deciding point of the match. Hendo came in from the left and shot, the ball going to the far post area of the net from the left, another of our players could have intercepted it and smashed it into the back of the net but believed the ball was going in anyway...BUT it glanced the post and deflected out. Hogan had a chance but didn't convert. Another player caught the ball as it came back out of their goal area and smashed it full power only a few yards out but it hit Evatt full square on his head without knowing about it. Hendo had one of his curling shots into the top corner blocked...and so on.
But it was that man Roberts who proved to be the difference between the sides. He assisted the second goal, after we were pushing up trying to equalise. Our heads dropped a little, but we were still pushing...then Roberts assists with the third goal.
Goals change games, or should that be linesmen (there was a lineswoman on the other side) change games ????
If Henderson was offside when Done passed the ball it doesn't matter if its deflected on the way - still offside. Its only when the opposition give you the ball directly you can't be offside.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

It wasn't a deflected pass though, it was a wayward one from their defender, therefore the goal should have stood!

It sounds strange but the game could have gone either way the 15 minutes where we had the disallowed goal we peppered their goal and it could have bee 4 - 1. Cummins missed a sitter. Think it was Rose who should have scored but someone's head got in the way. Its a shame really because Chesterfield weren't as good as they were at spotland earlier in the season.
