Alan Ross & his band were resident band for many year at the Rank.
There was a very strict Dress code there, they even checked the length of your hair before they let you in. |

I was there when Ben E King played there.
His support act was Chris Shakespear Globeshow.
Chris was a Winchester lad & the rest of the band were local.
They had a top twenty single with a cover version of
" Ooh Blah Dee, Ohh Blah Daa"
Originally done by the Beatles.
Marmalade also covered it. [Post edited 31 Oct 18:17]

Reply | Anyone go to the old speedway stadium

I'm not ashamed to say that Yes I was a regular at the Southampton Speedway.
My older brother used to take me, I think that I was only about 8 yrs old.
Loved it, loved the smell of the bikes & it was always a great atmosphere.
I actually found it quite scary, the speed, the noise.
You didn't want to stand on the bends because you'd get covered in muck from the track.
I remember local lad Kevin Holden riding for Southampton & Exeter, he unfortunately had a serious crash & died on the track.
Shame it ever closed, the nearest Speedway track now is Poole & been there many times. [Post edited 29 Oct 13:22]

What's wrong with supporting more than one team.
I support Saints but also support Eastleigh.( I played for them when they were Swaythling Athletic)
I believe that we should be supporting all your local teams.
although I can't call my myself a Bournemouth supporter I do follow them & want them to do well.
Much to this fanzone annoyance I don't actually hate Pompey, I don't support them but I do not hate them.
I want to see all of our South Coast teams doing well. |

99% right with your comments.
But great Managers also need to be Lucky Managers.
Tonda is undoubtedly a very talented motivational coach.
He was lucky that he wasn't sacked & we are also very lucky to have him.
Let's give some Credit to Spores for recognising Tonda's talent & for promoting him to 1st team coach & sticking by him during the ridiculous Spygate episode.
So the missing 1% is the element of luck needed to be successful. |

Dobbin is a poor man's Nathan Redmond.
There's no way that we'll get promoted if we are relying on him to score goals because he won't. |

Perhaps we'll see Harwood Bellis back on loan in January.
He's not getting games at Villa.
I agree with your comment about us playing more slowly out from the back when Jack is playing.
It is noticeable but perhaps that is Tonda's plan ?.
Jack definitely looks more comfortable playing right side of the 2 ctr backs. |

I personally am one of Jack's biggest critics but to his credit he's come in & we've managed to get two clean sheets since he's been back.
So for the time being I'm going to refrain from calling him Slack Jack.

Agreed Caspar Jander is a class act.
To come back after such a long time off & perform like that was exceptional.
He looked like he'd never been away, I'm not surprised that he was suffering cramp late in the game.( hope it was just cramp).
But after his exertions last night I'd be surprised if he was able to play on Saturday.
Cam Bragg will be available but just hope that Flynn Downes injury is not serious. |

Tonda has made numerous changes for tonight's match against Norwich.
I am not convinced that this team will beat Norwich but at least we have some game changers on the bench.
Just hope Tonda has got it right.

Players that moved on are not exactly setting the world alight.
Harwood Bellis not been include in Villa Squad again .
Fernández on bench for Spurs
Shea Charles played for Fulham but had poor rating.
I did notice that Ross Stewart was on the bench for Swnsea.
But regardless of whether they are playing or not they are earning lots more dosh.
Perhaps we'll see THB back in January on loan.

I agree.
If Will Still had been here any longer he'd have been our worst Managerby a Country Mile.
He escaped that accolade by getting sacked after just a few games.
He was absolutely clueless. |

I wonder if this could get bigger before it gets better.
We know that other staff at the club were party to the so called spying episodes so I'd be surprised if the FA are not looking into that.
It is possible that others at the club could get a punishment or deemed not fit to manage or work at a football club.
My thoughts only, I was born pessimistic. |

Thread | Don't you just hate these International Breaks
at 16:24 21 Sep 2026
One month into the season & everything stops for pointless International Matches.
I just hate them & really do not enjoy watching International football.
I see that a shed load of players have already dropped out of the England squad pretending to be injured or tired.
I'm convinced that some clubs ( not all) give players incentives to not play for their country ( perhaps a bit controversial or just cynical) but that what it looks like to me.
The desire to play for England is not what it used to be.
Micky Channon said that he would have walked barefoot on broken glass to get to Wembley and play for his Country. |

I'm going to play Devils Advocate here & say that I personally don't think we'll even make the play offs, with or without Tonda.
Our squad is just not strong enough this season.
We've lost players & not replaced them or replaced them with worse players.
Dobbin is worse than Archer (hard to believe I know)
Zach Abbot at this stage of his career is not a patch on THB.
We replaced Stewart with Mubama & a fit Stewart was superior to Mubama.
Albeit unsurprisingly Stewart hasn't played a league game this season due to another injury so perhaps we've lost nothing there.
We lost Shea Charles & replaced with JWP, good financial gain for the club & JWP will do a job in this lge, bur we lost a good young player with potential.
We still have Fellows & Edozie & neither are not physically able to shine in what is a brutal lge.
And YES I'll happily eat my words if we get into the play offs. |

Totally immature & unnecessary.
Does this sort of thing not constitute bringing the game into "Disrepute.
If so they should be punished as we were. |
