The stats don’t show us having any more possession than recent seasons, but we seem to have it higher up the pitch and using it to create more opportunities and a lot of it is down to him. I have spent most of my adult life pleading with the Rangers midfield to win more “second balls”, and suddenly we are. What a difference it makes. |

I went with my son for the first time ever and it was a much milder experience than I expected, though the fact that we’d more or less given them them the game after 15 minutes took a lot of the sting out. Very tightly policed, both at the ground and London Bridge Station, the police gave us priority at the station afterwards (it is very cramped there), sight lines and facilities at the ground better than LR. And the noise! Even louder than I expected. Well worth doing, if only we had played for more than 15 minutes when the game was already gone. The one drawback is that you are made to take the train back to LB, we wanted to walk to Deptford. |

Some new phrases for me there. Considering that the War Zone our central defence resembled most closely in recent seasons has been 1940 France, I wouldn’t have felt confident inviting any opponent in there, but that’s the sign of our improvement, I suppose. No idea what the Egg is supposed to be. Which egg? Not chocolate any more, presumably.
I’ve got a soft spot for Alfie, there was a lovely video of him signing a few years ago and the pride on his Mum’s face is something I’ve never forgotten. [Post edited 15 Oct 22:45]

I only noticed Szmodics when he cleared out Adamson in the first half and looked like he wanted to stamp on him. Seemed in a terrible mood. Can’t remember us ever beating him before. |

I’m in Ostend for a boys’ weekend and the tram service from the town centre was suspended tonight because of “sand on the tracks”. Nice to know feeble excuses aren’t limited to Britain. |
