Nice mix in the midfield having both Fulton's and Eustaquio's experience helps, as for that attacking flair element, are we just waiting for Widell's to score his first this season, it is on the cards🤞🏼 |

Maybe a better gauge would be goals scored across the team.but then maybe you have to look at goals conceded per minute.
And then decide all that matters is points per minute.  |

Would be interesting to know how Vipotnik's minutes to goal ratio compared to playing under Matos this season to Sheehan and Matos last season or even Sheehan's successful stint after Williams. Would we find his ratio minutes to goals would be better because we were getting the ball forward more often when we get the ball moving quicker? |

Didn't Martin ignored him after his return from suspension the when we need a little more in the midfield to make us better defensively, would have been a case of Grimes, Downes and Fulton and one other because on his eventually return there was an upturn of results.
For me it is not about playing him as a defensive midfielder so much but as a more fluid player able to progress up the pitch with his work rate but able to do it without fear of leaving gaps because other players in the midfield have the abilities and read the game to cover him. Eustaquio seems to have those abilities . |

Vipotnik was desperate to score and prove himself, he had two shots or attempts that the defenders got tight to while he got control of the ball where in at least one of those cases the better option would have been to look for players free alongside him as Blackburn got caught pushing forward. Idah did his closing down quite well cutting angles for the player on the ball but you could see he was expecting Vipotnik to join the press but Vipotnik did not seem to understand what was required of him did he hang back to help in midfield or press getting caught in no man's land make both forwards relatively ineffectual the same as against West Ham when both were on the pitch, you could question how quickly we processed the ball forward against West Ham in those latter stages but not so much yesterday. If we are going to play the both a better understanding of their roles by themselves and the team.
Who do you use as substitute in a game that has been won, would you have rested Opoku the last wings who has had effective game time given both Ronald and Yeo have injuries and he did look extremely tired at the end especially with us trying to cover the one route of attack that Blackburn had found to be effective, Key replacing Lissah who admittedly covered a lot of ground but he was having problems against their winger, we doubled up and tried to slow him down but that required a lot of work from Opoku would Key and Lissah have been a better partnership.
We did get a good look at Parente who needed game time given he hasn't had any this season and given we have the option to buy it would seem sensible to see if he was up to scratch, he looked strong, quick and intelligent on the ball, could he attack as a winger alongside Tymon similar to Bidewell and Manning but with more pace than Bidewell. It would release Eom to go on the right wing to give Opoku a much needed rest especially with the midweek game to come to maintain our strength across the pitch when games are tighter.
Excellent preformance yesterday, hope Eustaquio and Tymon are OK. |

We even played a long ball down the middle whuch Stewart competed well for, if we are going to use twin centre forward we will need to play the ball to them high up the pitch at times. |

Very enjoyable game and result, nice to see Key fit and Parente getting some game time and both doing well to ensure we have an amount of strength in depth.

No they won't they are playing tomorrow  .
And even tomorrow Birmingham would top them if you assume both teams win and that would possibly be only until the end of the later kick offs  |

Idh has shown up quite well up top and earned a lot of praise early on in the season, he was complimented on his link up play, his aerial challenges to make things awkward for centrehalves, he surprised people with his pace but of late are we giving him the supply that is needed, is the midfield dropping too deep so unable to support him forcing him deeper to recieve the ball as we cut the long balls out to keep possession.If the midfield has to drop too deep then that invites pressure through the middle of the park the fullbacks tuck in leaving the wingers free to deliver dangerous crosses, is the problem the attackers, defenders or the midfield? Opoku scored earlier in the season against Stoke and Derby playing on the right hand side, Yeo has scored two as well when switched to the right and Ronald has scored two from the bench, basically all showing their qualities from the right hand side and not the left which once again we are struggling from the lack of left footed players, leaving Tymon more often than not the preferred option to cross the ball, having to get high up the pitch to do so.
I for one think Eom needs to play in that wide role on the left with licence to roam, allowing space for Tymon but that needs cover to be in place for Tymon. |

We played Gillingham in the 2024–25 EFL Cup first round it was a 'given" at 2-0 up against a team who had been reduced to 10 men, low and behold we we continued to attack with no concern for defending and they pulled one back in the 87min and then should have scored again as we continued to throw caution to the wind , we did score right at end to make a scary night look like a comfortable win.
Leeds came here and secured a dramatic 3-4 away victory against Swansea City in the EFL Championship on November 24, 2024, we led twice in the first half goiing in at half time 2-1 up managed to go 2-3 behind grabbed the 90 min equaliser but lost 4-3 against a team who got promoted that season.
My point is that at times in games you need to secure your position in a game and not go all 'Gun ho! "
The fact that the likes of Burgress Cabango and now Welsh are being single out for "own goals" or "bad displays " is because at times we over commit players forward without safe guards or adequate cover in place to counter our mistakes , these are mistakes that any team makes against well organised teams and punished more so against so callled better teams, Coventry and Ipswich last season, are they games that we should have lost, you can take instances of games where at times we haven't played percentage football, 0-0 against Millwall at home a couple of years back conceding a late goal because we went looking for a goal to win the game, we were on top and looked as if we could score but we gave the game away by unnecessarily by over committing and not show enough caution to guard against mistakes.
Did we do the same against QPR, we could have got back into the game, we almost could have scored in the first fifteen instead but we ended up 3-0 down, did we go all " Gun ho!"
Many have complained about different tactics or the lack in depth of a squad but Martin's and William's tactics threw games away how often did teams score goals against us within minutes of us scoring a goal. Cooper teams remained defensively resolute in games although in the play off final we tried to attack from the off and got punished. Then Fulton lost his head , did that happened again last Saturday the team lost it head, trying too hard to attack getting caught too high up the pitch as a whole and suffering because of mistakes.
Matos has to now sit down and make sure the team does not make the same mistake as other managers , Sheehan comes to mind initially doing good jobs twice then lost his way.
We are in the promotion positions because of his management and a bit of luck in the unpredictable volatile Championship, long may it continued.
Earlier in the season did we give more possession away playing more balls forward quicker, I think so but did we put more pressure on teams doing so? [Post edited 30 Oct 8:42]
