Remember going to Stokes ground and the touchline were obviously altered brought in the reduce the pitch, with Lincoln it allowed the long throws to end up deeper into the penalty area. To no avail😋 |

I think Cabango got a little impetuous on his return from injury trying to prove himself after seeing the Lissah and Welsh pairing, I think he has settled back in now, as the pairing was working well before his injury. Lissah at the start of the season at fullback did well initially then moved inside just think he needs to settle back into the fullback position again.
Were anybody surprised or nervous at Welsh being taken off in the end but Seelt did well, Matos seems to be getting things right even though he has had to deal with a number of injury, the benefit of having strength in depthin the squad? |

Really think Widell will improve, liked him in the centre on the lefthand side and thought he just needed time to adjust to playing on central on the right hand side. With Eustaquio, Eom, Widell, Just and Franco in the central roles it is looking good for the future and Stamenic is now starting to look a lot more comfortable in that central role with busy ball winners showing a little more composure when needed, it did get scrappy in the end but job done.
As for the wing play it got stifled leaving us unable to get in behind initially. Widell now starting to cut in as Eom did originally but Eom's game has gone up a notch and it looks as if Widell is going in the right direction.
If we can cut the lines of defences that drop back as we did against Lincoln then things will only get better🤞🏼 |

Any cover for Key and Lissah on the right? We saw last season having Parker was needed to fill the gaps left by Key's injury issues and to protect Ward over the ninety minutes. In the heavily congested fixtures period who is going to cover Lissah if required? Can we recall Parker due to injury issues and is Parker getting game time, on the bench in Wycombe last game, he had first team experience at seventeen and last season did very well when called on. At twenty he seemed good enough, should he be in our squad not playing second fiddle as a loan player to an established player in the lower league. |

That ugly long ball football has a place in the game when you have the players who give you the option to profit from it Halland being an example but thought Lincoln used it too often in the end and became predictable and also left themselves open to a third.
Glad we mixed our play up because our attacks down the left faltered and got cut out leaving us on the back foot.
Job done happy. |

Think that was defected back in towards the post off one of our players and "may" have kept in, good save if it was and prevented a corner anyway.

Tymon had a good game with a couple of mistakes, the penalty was very reminiscent of how Grant Holt won things against us. The main mistake in that case is the referee's and he knew it and wasn't going to give the second penalty shout a look in after it.
In many ways Lincoln played at time similarly to us with the long cross field ball and the long ball from the keeper when our press was held after going up but they resorted to it too often, yes they gained territory enough for their long throws into the box but we managed to repel that threat.
Did they sit off at the start of the second half and get done in key moments of a game before and after half time, it would seem that at lot of games have their moments to turn games around, and did they leave gaps eventually as they pushed up.
As for Just playing well it will be interesting to see how Matos uses or fits Widell, Just and Eom when they are all available if Stamenic and Eustaquio are deemed as first choice starters and then you have Franco to add to the mix.
Hard fought and deserved away win, wasn't it the only away one yesterday. |

That is impressive given the number of teams who resort to winning set pieces towards the end of games. Today we got the ball on the floor quicker in that early second half.To a degree we stopped playing the predictable down the flanks game being closed down, very hard to get any forward momentum for our forwards with their backs to the opposition goal. Job done getting back in the game, then to go ahead and then to shut them out. The first goal suck the opposition into the middle which then left space out wideexcellent cross and movement for the goal.
As for a deflected shot on the edge of the box more than happy to take a chance of a shot, we tried it a number of times glad to have the win |

Thought Cabango got into the refs face as needed by a captain against Burnley. There could have been a lack of communication in holding the offside line but there was nowhere near as bad are the lack of communication or understanding that existed playing alongside Burgess mainly because both players seem to want to attack the same aerial ball at set pieces while at our defensive corners it lead to confusion with Vigouroux as well, in open play it could include the midfield . I also got the impression that Burgess was the one doing the most talking and not necessarily in a good way, seemingly berating players at times a little too often rather than offer encouragement.
Welsh is a much better foil to work off for Cabango or Lissah. As for Cabango his distribution has been a lot better or quicker out to the right for the last season or so, the trouble he seems to be having at the moment is trying a little too hard in some respects, be it making an extremely reckless challenge, trying to decide to track or get goalside of a striker or throwing his hand in the air to give away aa penalty. As for his passing the question could be the positioning of Key in relation to his winger, one ball that Cabango played out to Yeo gave the recieving player no room as Key had moved forward and Yeo had dropped back to the same position. It has been nice to see Cabango hitting the wingers feet bypassing Key which allows Key to come onto Yeo's wall pass at pace if that is the preferred best option for Yeo. Cabango does have a good strong pass at times that can help the recieve with good ball control but as said previously when passes become predictable they are prone to be cut out, a number on the left hand side were against Burnley the inside ball to the oncoming Tymon but I think that is down to inexperienced wing play by Widell, we have seen it with Eom but he has had that extra season compared to Widell to make the right choice of options to take.
Must say Cabango trying too hard got us a 90 minute goal against Cardiff a while back so happy to see in in the opposition's penalty box at corners. Providing nobody like Darling and Burgess are going for the same ball in the same area of the goalmouth as has previously been seen |

Switching formation should be part of the normal game play depending on the state of play and trying to gain the upper hand going forward, trying to get back into games, setup to play against the better teams, we scored the last goal against Burnley playing two up top changed shape to suit the game. Sometimes managers get it right sometimes not, long may Matos get it right. |

Very hard for a manger to get the best out of players, if you asked me after the first couple of games about Opoku and Yeo I would have said Opoku was the stronger player and Yeo didn't quite work, Just worked well with Opoku but Opoku didn't seem to work well with Widell who had to adapt to the right side of midfield, Eom dislodged Yeo on the left and Yeo seemingly dislodging Opoku on the right, Stamenic is push further forward on the left of midfield to accommodate Fulton as the preferred Defensive Midfielder, Eustaquio comes in on the left not as everybody expected in the DM role, Stamenic seen as the future oust Fulton and Eom away requires Widell to play out on the left, Tymon needs to join the forward push more often to get those dangerous crosses in, Cabango's return breaks up a solid looking pairing, Lissah goes from a comfortable looking defender to a struggling right back a position he previously for some had made his own, Key's marked improvement now being questioned
Lots of things for Matos to ponder in an attempt to keep us fans happy while getting results which given the new players and the changes he has done an excellent job. [Post edited 14 Sep 9:03]

Two good points, Stamenic that little bit further up the pitch really seems to suit him better joining and making attack, alternating midfielders creating space for each other higher up the pitch, covering each others forward runs while cover the fullback or in other cases the centrehalves in the middle as the centrehalves are covering the fullbacks at times. |

Last season we asked the question where would be if we other players than Vipotnik adding to the goal tally, three different players scoring today, early days but a health table position and goal difference.
Quick balls forward causing teams problems, playing through the middle, wingers coming in off the wings, turning centre backs when the flanks have beenclosed down.
Nice to see Vipotnik getting goals but also others contributing. |

He has always looked to feed Vipotnik and vice versa they work together. Has trying to play in a certain way hampered his best attributes. The same could be said of Tymon and Key, Tymon for the most part is playing a more defensive role but without a "wingers" out wide on the left he has pushed forward more and we have been caught out. Key is trying to prove a point given his position being questions, same with Ronald, it had a good effect on Vipotnik and he upped his game last season, maybe he needs get his head right does seem as if he is getting there again.
Changes have been made to accommodate new players or returning players. Three goals from quick counter attack yesterday, (Idah's ultra high press).a changed that means we are able to kill games off.
More than happy to have Ronald still with us trying to prove a point. |

As I said both have played better as fullbacks this season , would add that when the tactic of going down the flanks has been countered the play needs to be changed to find the gaps in the middle and then back out to the wings.
At the moment we are exploring and finding different ways to to change games, what was disappointed with the Southampton game, we had found a way back into it but left ourselves wide open to getting caught out. Very much like watching Martin and William's mantra which has got found too often when your team set up isn't spot on. |

They are playing better as fullbacks but they are being asked to tuck in at times because if our midfielders are joining the press a space appears behind our midfield especially if our defensive midfielder sit too deep, leaving room for better teams to drive down the middle our fullbacks tuck in to stop the drives forward leaving space out wide. Most teams only commit three players to a press which allows the midfield to remain in place blocking the path through the middle while allowing the fullbacks get closer to the wingers, a press should be about squeezing the opposition team into a corner leaving them very little option off the ball carrier leaving the only option to give the ball back to the goalie to play the long ball if you commit too many players to a press then better teams will walk straight through you if it is not done effectively players left unmarked in the middle or out wide or spaces left for them to attack all about balancing your attack and defence at different stages of the game.
Luckily Burnley were poor at the back trying to play possession football but they had enough about them to raise concerns. They should have scored more while Vigouroux pulling off some fine saves. [Post edited 13 Sep 7:23]
