No antti, that wasn't a crowd being woken up by the team. That wasn't us belatedly urging them on. That was us at 2 nil down TELLING them they were going to do it, telling them to bloody well get on with flinging the mud at that wall. Even T Block. Dribble, shoot and do it again. It was the same noise that lifted Mackie to that winner against Liverpool that night. It was almost unfair on PNE to have that crowd against them. URsssss |

Thanks Clive for an excellent summary, it really helps to add some rational alignment to the flurry of frustrating emotions taken away from a game like this.
Gale's pull back on Saito was so cynical that another 15-20 yards further on it would be straight red. Damn annoying and very unsporting - never worthy of applause!

Great to read a proper report on a game that mattered! Just one thought on he ref's curate's egg (to be kind) of a performace, what the fridge was that charade with the Saito/Poku double substition? Stefan blew his tits explaining to the ref the new rules.
It was a curate's squeezed out soft boiled because he didn't show Ronnie the two yellows he seemed at one point to be begging for. Was that Pompey fans goading the ex Saint? |

again, we were definitely at the same game but thank you for all the shrewd and undeniably accurate insights. The owners can stop throwing 2mil a month into the pot but we can't stop going, who is madder? Thankfully there was the obligatory attention seeking fat baldie in the how stand to keep us amused as there was nothing on the pitch brough any pleasure.
Chappeau doffed to Rhys Norrington-D who had the decency to come over and warmly thank the QPR support for a season in which his contribution was generally appreciated and as for Paul Smyth - what a star with his grin wider than his face photothon along the pitch edge at the end. |

The one brief moment of football clarity from the ref was to make chiekfkewjhwe leave the pitch when feigning that head injury even though the physios declined to enter the field despite the ref's repeated insistance they should. Possibly not quite what the rules of the game say, I don't know but also its sa shame yellows can't be issued to the medical staff!
Morgan had one of his best games, constantly looking for the ball and looking forward, if he is still with us in a couple of seasons we will be purring over him.
Ronnie was a rock all game.

Thank you for, well, putting together some nice words around a memory probably best dispatched to some part of the brain usually reserved for all events after the 4th pint of Guinness. No one will take you to task for this not looking like a game where a slightly different selection would have been transformative and removing Esquerdinha from the scene of the crime was a genuine act of kindness for all 18,000 or so in the area, but what was the logic of bringing on Smyth for the falling over on his knees act and moving Vale to left back when the bench had Cook and Mbengue champing at the bit?
Well played that pigeon, 8/10 for doing what pigeons do.

Totally buy in to your Madsen's "on the third day" redemptive arc. Last season Madsen played from that notorious Karl Henry manual "How to jog slowly and never stray more than 5 feet from the centre circle". Now he's throwing himself into the game to huge effect including in the first half a chase back and launch into a horizontal helicopter tackle that deserved a "good as a goal" pat on the back. |

One of those ill advised ole segments in the second half saw Varane concede a throw in under pressure from his own feet, he then niggled and blocked and tried gritting up the Norwich throw in mechanism only for a rather smarter person in canary yellow to pick up the multi ball from its cone 3 yards away. The new ball was immediately busy being flicked on to the edge of the box while Varane is still wrestling over the advertising board.. watch who enters stage right into shot just as the spare guy in the middle slots the ball home for the equaliser (ok - Madsen was late to the scene as well but he at least tried running". |
