![]() Sunday, 13th May 2012 08:40 by Col A number of former Dale players have been released by their clubs following their contracts running out. Loan keeper Josh Lillis has been released by Scunthorpe United. Lillis was a big hit during his time with Dale, and played a massive part in our first season in League One, and many supporters will be hoping that his availability could see a return to Spotland. Another loan keeper Peter Kurucz has had his contract terminated by West Ham. Kurucz's time at Dale came to an abrupt end following an injury sustained in a challenge by Lee Hughes, meaning that we had to play out the rest of our relegation campaign with reserve keepers. Paul Marshall has been shown the door by Port Vale. He started the season at Spotland on non contract terms at Dale after being signed by Steve Eyre. However, that led to just eight minutes worth of game time for Dale, and after leaving the club, he signed for the Burslem side. Left back Tom Newey has been let go by Rotherham. Newey was brought to Spotland as cover for Tom Kennedy a couple of years back and has had spells at Bury and the Millers since leaving Dale. Former loan striker Reuben Reid has been released by Oldham. Reid had a very brief spell at Spotland a few years back that was cut short after he voiced concern over the training methods at Spotland. Winger Andy Haworth has been released by Bury. Haworth was another loanee who didn't have the happiest time whilst with Dale, and he signed for the Shakers after being let go by Blackburn. But like with Dale, initial glimpses of genius tended to be the highpoint of his time with the Gigg Lane club.
