Bottom At The End Of The Year - Is There Hope?

Home > Story Index >Bottom At The End Of The Year

So the Swans finish 2002 bottom of the football league. I am sure that many have heard people say that no-one bottom of the Premiership at Christmas has been saved from the drop so how does that apply with the Third Division.
Well, have a look at the bottom positions in this league for the past 10 years and the final finishing position of each team. It doesn't make that good reading.

As you can see, only two sides (Hull in 98-99) and Carlisle (in 2000-2001) have managed to life themselves out of the bottom two which is what we need. However, if you want positives, only last season (Halifax) has a team had more points than we have at the end of the year and indeed Hull pulled them back from a worse position in 98-99.
So if the Swans are to pull themselves to safety then it will have to be against the trend of the last ten years - let's hope that we do anyway!
