Refwatch Preview: Yeovil (h)
Saturday, 9th Oct 2010 07:38 by TVOS

Referee Andy Haines will bring back fabulous memories for Dale fans when he visits Spotland on Saturday.

The Tyne & Wear based official was the man in the middle on that memorable afternoon against Northampton in April when Dale clinched their first promotion in 41 years.

He has been back here since for the pre-season friendly against Bolton, but the Northampton fixture is one which will stand out more for Dale fans.

Andy is in his fourth season on the league list and Saturday’s game will be his ninth at Spotland.

His full list of Dale games is:

22 Sep 2007 v Macclesfield (h), D 1-1

16 Jan 2008 v Chesterfield (a), W 4-3

1 Apr 2008 v Bradford (h), W 2-1

20 Sep 2008 v Chesterfield (h), W 2-1

11 Apr 2009 v Port Vale (h), W 1-0

18 Jul 2009 v Everton (h, friendly), L 1-4

18 Aug 2009 v Cheltenham (h), L 0-1

17 Apr 2010 v Northampton (h), W 1-0

24 Jul 2010 v Bolton (h, friendly), D 1-1

His last Yeovil match was 12 months ago when they lost 4-0 at Leeds.

So far this season Andy has refereed seven games, showing 19 yellow cards and, as yet, no red.

He was most recently at Stockport last Tuesday for their 2-2 draw with Accrington.

D_Dale added 10:27 - Oct 9 Interesting that he came down from the NE to ref pre-season friendlies this year and last - in these cases are appointments made by the FL or more in the way of private arrangements made by the club? Did Ken Redfern, who seemed to be well-liked at Dale, ever come down from the NE to ref friendly matches?

TVOS1907 added 10:34 - Oct 9 I think it's a joint appointment by the clubs and the FL. In Ken Redfern's day, referees for friendlies were usually from the Rochdale/Lancashire area, but the net is cast a bit wider now.
