The man has gone too far now with his Twitter game. By suggesting all Chelsea fans (and by association Rangers) are racist NF BNP tubthumpers , he has caused another social media storm.
Now, call me old-fashioned, but assigning beliefs to entire groups of people based on one shared interest seems to me…well, bigotry. But hey, what do I know?
I'm no Chelsea or Rangers apologist, but this has irked me.
Collymore is really to be pitied. His problems are well documented, and I feel sorry for him. You’d think he would have a bit more empathy for others instead of labelling hundreds of thousands of people as racist simply because of their choice of football team. That’s a plainly diabolical thing to do.
To his ire he isn't viewed as a credible pundit at large, irrespective of his attempted reinvention, he is more a self-promoted twitter obsessive and tabloid radio blabber mouth. It clearly massively bothers him, but he’s really no different to the likes of Richard Littlejohn — just a loud hailer shouting into the morass.
Collymore will get a rise out of some but when you are sitting at home all day on social media with little else to do except playing with Twitter it's probably to be expected. The irony will come when he is most likely sued for one of his comments on social media, and given the extremity of his views and self-promotion of them, it won't be too far away.

It's escalated to him making a stand against sectarian singing at games, which is fine - because that is both illegal and wrong.

That's it, though, a minority.
I know several Chelsea fans and even more Rangers fans, none of who harbour racist or bigoted views.
It would be like someone saying all Dale fans are shaven-headed thugs after watching that clown on that Channel 5 hooligan programme.
As I say, I'm no apologist for either club, I just felt the generalisation was a bit too much. | |

Having lived in London for the last 18 years, and watched a lot of football in bars and at grounds, in my opinion Chelsea have far, far more knobs and racist idiots than compared to Arsenal, Spurs etc.. I was given some tickets for Stamford bridge by a season ticketholder who couldnt use them one game, me and my mate were pretty much riduculed and intimidated throughout the game as they picked up we were day tripping neutrals, 'Fulhams that fackin way lads' etc. Not all are bad, but far more than average. | | | |

I agree and that behaviour was abhorrent.
My argument is with the fact that Collymore then tweeted that Chelsea and Rangers fans are "made for each other", signed off with hashtags pertaining to various right-wing groups. | |

Colly, by linking Rangers to his initial generalisation of Chelsea fans being racist, has changed tack and accused them of sectarian chanting at games.
Yes, this happens and it's appalling. But not just at Rangers games. I've been on trains up here with both sets of Old Firm fans singing atrocious stuff. Would I tar them all with the same brush? No. | |

the rise and rise of Gary Neville as a pundit has made pretty much everyone else redundant as serious pundits. All that's left to fight over is the Katie Hopkins of the football world (tho she was fab in CBB), and the likes of Savage and Collymore battle it out with nonentities like Moose. Talk shÃte is the mantra of Talk Sport, and it still has a whiff of Kelvin Mackenzie over everything it does.
That said, there are teams up and down the land where they have a disproportionate number of ne'erdowells. We could never say it was every fan, but a trip to Hull always felt like they were all intent on kicking our heads in (must be because its a bloody rugby town). Chelsea and Rangers have always had that side to them (tho Celtic fans could do with remembering Mark Walters' debut).
