Tonights FA Cup Draw 1st Round. 13:34 - Oct 22 with 5890 viewsYorkshire_Dale

Winners of this round each pick up £36000.......really important money to a Club like ours.

Balls 49- 80 are all non League sides so just hope Ball 38 is drawn first and then we get one of them?

Is that based on pay-on-the-days, or averaging out the ST sales at hugely discounted prices which (unless something has changed this season) accounts for their 15000+ gates?

Rough calculation. Don’t know anything about season tickets. Simply multiplied 12,000 extra people by £20 and got £240,000. Equals about 6x£36,000. All back of fag packet sums!

Still think dale are doing bloody well all told.

Away to Barnsley for the Chalkmeister, he'll be brimming with confidence I am sure

We will be seen as the underdogs and so have nothing to lose and give us an advantage,i would sooner be drawn against a team that are a league above us rather than a league below, the pressure is all on Barnsley not us,looking forward to round two already

Dale were drawn against Notts County in the FA Cup in my 'FIFA 18' 2017/18 season.

Despite having Camps and McNulty sent-off, we still won, albeit on penalties.

You heard it here first.

I`ll have to get hold of my mate Alan Lamb in Taupo,NZ,who is Gateshead born and bred. He played for them around 1992-95,saw a video of him scoring a goal in the FA Cup first round at Accy about the 92/93 season, but they lost 3-2. I can vaguely recall them coming to Spotland in the late 50s just before they went under. Why Aye Man anyway.

Brings back memories of 75/76 and drawing at Gateshead in round 2 on a bitterly cold day, with the terraces thick with ice at the athletics stadium.

Yes and we progressed in the replay to take then first division norwich to three games in the third round. Still remember Phil Mulligan scoring a belter in the first game at Norwich. His mother used to travel on the supporters bus to away games.

It was the first big FACup away game for donkeys years and we took two full Bywaters coaches down all dressd up in blue and white. Mark Hodkinsons book life sentence has a photo of the fans just off the coach on its cover. Front and centre as always was a well known local window cleaner!

Brian Green was manager and we really gave Norwich a fight. Brian had come back from Australia where he had been manager of the socceroos and brought with him his assistant Alan vest. We had been top of the division for a short period but with no depth to the squad we petered out badly after the cup run. Had played Bradford City at Spotland on boxing day in a top of the table clash and lost to them.

I think Brian realised there was no money to support him developing a strong squad and he moved on. He provided huge support for the supporters club, a lovely fellow and with Melledew back at the club in his swansong the bond between club and supporters was as good as at anytime in my years supporting the club. Melledew was just a big fan living out a dream. Though we didnt have too much success it was a great time to be a fan.

Phil Mullington scored at Norwich.

We played Barnsley away on Boxing Day 1975, losing 2-1, leaving Dale in 15th place. Bradford at home was on 20th September.

Walter Joyce was the manager at the time. Brian Green didn't arrive until June 1976, signing Steve Melledew shortly after.

The following season (76/77), we lost 1-0 at home to Bradford on 27th December. At the time of the match, Bradford were top of the table and Dale were ninth.

Yes, i said the scorer at norwich was mullungton, but thanks for confirming.

Apologies to Walter Joyce. As you say he was manager, I was getting my 75/76 season mixed up with my 76/77.

No probs. Although the football wasn't as good as now, it's an era in which I wish I'd been watching as there seems to be some good memories floating around.

I'm not sure what the attendance was for that replay versus Norwich at Spotland but there were an awful lot of casual fans turned up to see the likes of Ted MacDougall and Phil Boyer play for them. The Sandy was packed.

I remember that we hit the post in the second half; if that had gone in it would have been almost Coventry-esque!

Strangely enough I was nattering with our window cleaner last week about who owned the round, as he had said that he was an employee. He told me that the boss had purchased the round a couple of years ago after returning from Australia where he had played pro football. His surname? Millington!
I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and quickly steered the conversation to other topics.
