'No, not another one!' Came away from tonight,s game thinking why did I not realise the team that would have been selected and the predictable performance of such a team in this competition. Add to that another low standard of officiating - how did the referee not see anything wrong with the challenge on Cashman? I'm questioning the whole point of being involved in this competition. Once again a football -watching experience that left me cold, miserable, fed up, . . . . Why do I bother?

I actually used to really enjoy this competition during Hill's latter spell. His teams always featured a nice blend of established players, reserves and youth. My first sight of Luke Matheson was in this competition and I remember being so excited by him.

Since then it hasn't really been used as a trial for the kids, but I do wonder if it would be the perfect competition to try players like Brierley and Thomas, as a bridge between youth football and first team football.

The best possible outcome is that Port Vale smash Liverpool U21s, we bow out and won't pick up anymore injuries to our players in a competition that's about as meaningful as a Steve Dale press release.

Tangled up in blue.

Agree, but we rearranged the fixture to clash with the Youth Cup game. So that suggests we never intended to use a few of the youngsters. I'd would have left it for next Tuesday and field some of the youth team. We still had enough second team seniors to make up the squad and it would of allowed the team a good off ahead of the FA Cup - a competition that is far more important to us financially

Bolton were also part of the rearranging process, don't forget.

We couldn't play next Tuesday as us and Bolton are both playing on Sunday.

We couldn't play next Wednesday, as Bolton are playing a week on Friday.

The rules of the competition would have limited how many youth players we were allowed to pick anyway. Also, regardless of thoughts on the PJT, first team competitions will always take priority.

Maybe we tried to move the FA Youth Cup game to last night, but Guiseley weren't able to accommodate it.

This was really all created by the Dale v Notts County and Bolton v Stockport FA Cup ties being moved to Sunday.

You mean you STILL haven't worked out why some posts get down-ticked?
