I was sitting in work the other day waiting for the comet halle Bopp to end my bored shitless torment when some bloke i work with, made a round of tea's and this young lad on work experience said 'Awesome' when he was handed the Mug.
He also uses the words , without fear nor favour, 'Sheesh', 'Dumb', Hi', and most unbelievably, 'Sucks'. A lot.
I was about to launch into a blitzkreig rant about Landing on the sea of fecundity in a tin foil space probe being 'awesome', Kubricks '2001' is 'awesome' , Franz Shuberts 'Trio In E flat' is ' awesome'. Dennis Hopper is 'Awesome'. Your very first ecstasy tablet charging through your soul cast from gods fourth rib, Is 'Awesome'... not some thin boned calcium deficent twot in a Average white band t shirt harnessing the power of mixing boiling water, a tea bag, and semi skinned in a Spurs Mug.
What stopped me from my middle aged rampage was the sight of this kids bag, With a dog eared , well worn , and Loved, copy of Bowies' Diamond Dogs' Lp, Sticking out .

I unwittingly met him at a Pink Fairies/ Tyrannosaurus Rex gig. I was talking to Sandy and Russ from the Fairies and this guy came over and joined in the conversation, Sandy told me it was Davy Jones and I didn't have a clue. I am thinking that Sandy (Duncan Sanderson) must have known him for quite some time as he changed his name to Bowie in the mid 60's IIRC. The Ladbroke Grove/ Notting Hill musical collection was very loosely knit back then and you never knew who would be playing in which band when you went to see one of them.
The grass is always greener.

Ahhh ! That is tricky but without cogitating for too long Life On Mars will always be may favourite but of his post Let's Dance album where I think he wrote and recorded for himself not the rest of us - this is my favourite
Great choice College, and a fine riposte to those who think he finished round about Let's Dance.
His farewell to his old dad, written decades later, and still gets to me every time I face up to a loss.

Couldn't possibly pick one, partly because he's been with me since I was a kid listening to my big brother's copy of Ziggy, up to the day he died, partly because there simply is no such thing as the ultimate Bowie song - how do you compare Heroes with Let's Dance, Starman ("waiting in the sky") with Lazarus ("Look up at me, I'm in Heaven")? He's like a footballer who could play up front like Stan Bowles and next week play centre half like Alan McDonald.
But what the hell, no-one else makes big pop hits and classic guitar rockers but also sounds sounds like this:
I knew Bowie from our times down the Underhill Rehearsal Studios,1a Blackheath Hill,Sarf London. They were cellars below what is now a chemist shop - at the time a second hand car spares shop run by Jimmy Copley's dad Les.Bowie wrote the Ziggy stardust material down there, should really have a blue plaque on the building.I was touted to go over the States as part of the road crew but I bottled it since I don't like flying.David didn't like it either and I think he did most of the tour travelling by boat and overland. His fans were a weird bunch.

Truely LFW, we are caught up in the rapture of the high Dojo Bowie.
Cast Politics into the Abyss on this Forum... Bowies Music is some artefact of a higher dimension that we're capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can't understand it.
Fu ck knows, Iv'e had 6 pints of Camden Hells...

So many of so many styles to choose from, but this would be the one I'd most like to incorporate into a set list:

Soul tunes ruled my young life but mate used to play this song non stop.
Grew to admire this so much, lyrics are excellent.
t's a God-awful small affair To the girl with the mousy hair But her mummy is yelling, "No! " And her daddy has told her to go But her friend is nowhere to be seen Now she walks through her sunken dream To the seat with the clearest view And she's hooked to the silver screen But the film is saddening bore For she's lived it ten times or more She could spit in the eyes of fools As they ask her to focus on. Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man! Look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show Is there life on Mars? It's on America's tortured brow That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow Now the workers have struck for fame 'Cause Lennon's on sale again See the mice in their million hordes From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads Rule Britannia is out of bounds To my mother, my dog, and clowns But the film is a saddening bore 'Cause I wrote it ten times or more It's about to be writ again As I ask you to focus on Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man! Look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show Is there life on Mars?
“ Now the workers have struck for fame 'Cause Lennon's on sale again ”
I always thought it was because Lenin’s on sale again….!?

Scottish is in ahead of me with 'Life on Mars'. So this instead. Superb intro, effortless cool throughout.
I’m with you here, Brian. Saw the David Bowie Experience a couple of months ago and it’s amazing how many lyrics I remembered. Have also been adding to my Bowie vinyl collection. It still makes me sad knowing he’s never longer with us.

I used to think Dennis Hopper was awesome but then I watched Land of the Dead and it made me review his career and I realised he's not. He was okay though.
A bit like Bowie. His best song is Ashes to Ashes I reckon.
That said, Bowie did change my life a bit. When he died at 69 I thought 'f*ck! If Bowie can die at 69, so can I.'
He'd been famous my whole life and then all of a sudden he's dead and none of his doctors could save him. And I'm retiring at 67? To maybe get two years of freedom? F**k that. So I spoke to people who know about money shit and started figuring out how to retire early. I'm working on it..
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Changed my mind - I think this might actually be my favourite Bowie song of all time, and one of the few where a live intepration is actually more polished than the original:
