Rishi Sunak is to be the next PM 16:13 - Oct 24 with 20454 viewsJuzzie

He was elected without a vote from party members which makes me wonder why we had to have party members voting last time and not this time?

UK's first British Asian prime minister and at 42 is the youngest PM in over 200 years.

How long will this one last?

(ironically "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC is blaring out of my speakers as I typed this thread!)

Earlier, Boris Johnson pulled out of the leadership race, saying he had the support needed to stand but it would not be "the right thing to do".

This coming from a man who has no idea of what that even means. More like he didn't have the support and had to save face. Just fk off and wither away, please.

Quentin Letts was quite good in the Times today, saying Larry the cat was sitting outside number 10 waiting for his latest housemate.
Probably hoping to be made minister for mice.

Ah so she's leaking stuff on purpose to sort out issues within the conservative party?

She's either accidentally broken the ministerial code because and shouldn't be in that position hence the resignation. Or she's deliberately broken the ministerial code to make a point once again putting their party squabbles ahead of running the country. Either way I don't think she should be back so soon, at least have some respect for the public and pretend that she's had some time to reflect on it so you can argue she won't do it again.

This is what happens when you get cabinet ministers named after TV soap characters.

He's far from that, even if you don't like him and his views.

Must admit I didn't expect my casual mention of O'Brien to stir up so much feeling, which kind of indicates he's doing something right.

So Liz Truss was doing something right.

I may not agree (I don't) with his policies but he does bring a level of apparent competence.

As he pointed out today at PMQ`s it`s not just inner cities and former industrial northern areas that need leveling up it`s the whole country.

This is rather scary.

With a CBDC in place, what’s to stop old currency being devalued to next to nothing?

In our case, £2.5 trillion UK debt effectively written down to nothing, therefore a meaningless debt going forward so happy bankers and politicians but we’d all be left with hugely written down savings, pensions, investments, no doubt replaced with what would amount to a ‘handout’ from CBDC to all individuals concerned, that is practically all of us. In essence, old currency (liquid assets) made worthless.

Regards non liquid assets, ie your home, I could see that also being revalued down under CBDC valuation and mortgages readjusted to the percentage of the new valuation. Not so bad if you’ve got a big mortgage, not so good if you haven’t.

It’s hard to see how you could protect any existing assets from a centralised digital currency, the state controlling your entire lives and democracy would be finished.

Oh please behave Sharpy. Watch the clip, not even an idiot would believe that excuse. I think I’m right in saying that was the first lie Sunak has told in Parliament as PM. Not bad for your first day! He’s obviously a lot more like the man he knifed Johnson than he’d care to admit. However the thing I found most sinister was the glee he showed while talking about poverty around the country. He actually appears very proud of the misery and inequalities his own policies have caused. Joyful even. He reminds me of an Asian Mr Burns.

EDIT: Link doesn’t seem to work. Try this: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/video/2022/oct/26/trounced-by-pm-who-lost-t

I think all but the most dyed in the wool Tories would agree we’ve had some sh1t PM’s lately. Johnson is a corrupt lying narcissist, Truss a zealot and imbecile but I honestly think Sunak is the scariest of the lot because he’s so calculated, he is properly nefarious. I shudder to think of the damage his agenda will cause the country.

Sorry, how can you level up the whole country? Surely the idea of levelling up is to help areas left behind? If you help everyone then the inequalities are kept in place! Perhaps levelling up was a figment of Johnston's imagination, like a lot of other things!

Don’t expect anything socialist or caring for the worst off in our society but at least Sunak can do a bit of arithmetic. His world is finance and he’s good at it.

Nice fella, knows what he is doing.

That is astonishing. There is literally no other way to interpret it other than what it is. He clearly says he took money that was 'shoved' into deprived areas to fund areas like Tunbridge Wells, which is one of the UK's most affluent towns in one of the least deprived counties in England. It really should be low on the list when it come to regenerating areas.

It's nothing short of staggering. Yet people will still continue to blindly defend the party (and no doubt still vote as such regardless) because doing so is more important than admitting to one's self that actually things may be wrong.

I see a lot of negative things about a digital central bank online but in my limited knowledge of things like this I can't see why this is a massive problem?
Cashless society is how its going anyway I'm just not sure what the difference is between online banking etc and a new digital currency. ?

Well some were impressed when she said...

1) Macron - the jury's out on him being a 'friend or foe'
2) Sturgeon - best ignored as being 'an attention seeker'
3) Nuclear button - yes, she would press it, as now referenced by Putin!

I thought she was a complete idiot and liability as Foreign Secretary and was just playing to her idiot fan-base at home by talking tough,

No doubt will go down in history as the dumbest political leader ever, although much lauded by Nigel and his ERG half-wit brigade.
