From Kieran Maguire on X

Oldham Athletic lost almost £3.2 million in 23/24. Losses were effectively covered by borrowing, with liabilities increasing to £10 million and owner Frank Rothwell lending over £7.1 million. Oldham bought players for £110k in the season.

Poll: What is it to be then?

Staggering amount of money to spend for the sake of a collective circle jerk over being a few points ahead of little old Rochdale.

A fair few of us have our gripes with our club but thank christ we’re not run like these boom and bust clubs that won’t learn from previous financial mistakes. Their fans are just as responsible for allowing it to happen as the owners are. They get massive crowds though so spunking millions up the wall is secondary as long as they can brag about that.

How can you lose £3.2 million with spending of £110k on players? WTF...

Where is the other £3.1 million????

I smell a rat unless Chaddy the Owl is Christiano Rolando with a Saturday job..

They can't have "improved" the ground, still a fookin dump

!-0 FT.....not a good result for us, Southend are right on our tails and doing ok, apart from midweek loss to Boston.

Draw would have been better.

Win our two games in hand and we go above Oldham. Win those two games in hand and play offs look nailed on. That should be the mindset rather than looking at what's behind us.

It's a poor league and the reason why once in the play offs it's then a lottery. The teams finishing second and third have home advantage but they also have a long wait between the last league game of the season and their play off game, that can have a psychological effect and their opponent will be facing them in a buoyant mood. They will be favourites and we've seen what happens before in the play offs. That's why the mention of budgets to justify losing a football match wasn't necessary. Let's believe we can go to Wembley twice and do the double, why shouldn't we?

One day Frank Rothwell will run out of cash or throw the towel in. A national league club isn't worth the £10m owed on the balance sheet. And thats before this seasons losses are added. Its a good job that Owdum council used taxpayers money to pay for the new pitch.

The club with the highest wage bill in League two is Carlisle at just over £5m (probably a hangover from their relegation from League One). Non League Owdum can't be far behind that number.

£5 million hasn't done Carlisle a lot of good has it? They were bloody woeful here in pre-season and haven't progressed from that.

As for the Biffo's - rumour was a couple of weeks ago that Rothwell was ready to turn the tap off when it comes to pumping money into the club. He's has a pi££ poor return for his money so far, with no reason to believe that more money would make any difference.

They've thrown everything at it this season in a forlorn hope that they will go up automatically, which won't happen, so their only hope is the play-offs, which is only guaranteed to produce surprises.

We'll see how dedicated Frank Rothwell is when they hit the buffers. Assuming they don't do a Gateshead.

Oldham look like the new bury.

Similar fan base in mentality living on past glory, they could try and demand some answers sooner rather than later.

Frank looks well intended but is he quickly getting out of his depth?.

We don't want another local club going bump you have to hope Frank has pockets as deep as is realistically possible.
