An England cap beckons...

In the squad for the friendly against Scotland.

Deserved.

Gotta question why holt never got one after a similar first premier league season.

I know Frankie Fielding got a call up a couple of years ago, but has any former Dale players gone on to play for England before? Can't think of any.

Ah good call.

Still them Stockport fans who called him fat and lazy when he joined us will no doubt have the last laugh when they take on Colwyn Bay and Harrogate later this month.

Struggling to think of any other though.

And the difference with Lambert is that we were the team where his career took off, so we have a little more pride.

An explanation for Welbeck and Ashley Young would be lovely!

May be on my own here but I actually think Welbeck is one of England's best young players. The fact that Alex Ferguson chose to play Welbeck both home and away against Madrid would suggest he also thinks he can play.

Also bit of a long shot I know however am I right in thinking that there could be a chance of Rochdale getting yet more money from the Lambert deal if he was to play for England?

He did, although his one cap came in 1949 before he joined Dale. He was with WBA at the time.

I also think Wellbeck could go on to be a very good player for England.

Ted Burgin travelled as a squad member for the World Cup in 1954 (albeit before he joined Dale!)

Got to say that his first appearance against Macclesfield after he signed for us from Stockport certainly gave no indication of the player he would become for us.

On that day it would have been fair to say that at best"he looked out of condition" and "a yard off the pace".No doubt that his career had gone backwards at an alarming rate whilst at County. To pay a reported fee of £25,000 as we did for a player who had commanded a fee of around ten times that when he moved to County says it all

Wasn't there a full back called Joe Mort who played for Dale in the early 1920s and subsequently went on to play for Villa and England?

Beat me to it. Burgin only played for England B though.

Poll: 24/25 season ticket, how many free games would you consider fair?

Well done Rickie Lambert, I hope he scores 3 and plays a blinder just to give Hodgson a real problem when some of the others are fit and there is some serious opposition.

There was, although the books list him as Tommy Mort.

BigKindo might have seen him play.

I do hope that Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard all leave all the free kick taking responsibilities to RL should any shooting opportunities come England's way.
