Mackie was a catalyst (eg away at Derby) and was a crucial part (injury aside) of the team that actually won something!
And he scored memorable goals such as Liverpool at home.
Phillips MIGHT go on to achieve similar, and I hope he does.
However, currently the jury's out as to whether he's Richard Ord or Martin Rowlands (ie signed whilst injured)

He's a different player to Mackie. He's definitely the player you get when you can't get Townsend. Him, Townsend and Austin would have a field day. Pleased we've got Phillips, I've seen him play a few times and he's similar in style to Townsend, albeit right footed, and he is very very quick at this level. Plus he's over 6 foot and apparently good in the air too. |  |

but then i was excited when we signed SWP and Hoilet.... and they came with good reputations and experience and have done nothing so far really. Mackie came and was a fairly underwhelming signing...but did very well and suprised me.
