Best away win in League One this season.

Dale's best-ever win over Wigan.

First 5-0 win since the home game v Macclesfield in April 2007 (Dagnall hat-trick)

First 5-0 away win since a Morike Sako inspired victory at Darlington in October 2006

23rd 5-0 win in league football - 19 at home, 4 away

First win by 5 goals since a 6-1 home defeat of Chester in October 2008

First away win by 5 goals since the 7-2 thrashing of Stockport at Edgeley Park in March 2007

First time with four different scorers in a league game since the 4-0 win at Plymouth a fortnight ago

First time with four different scorers in an away league game since the 4-0 win at Plymouth a fortnight ago

Lund's goal was our 1000th in away games under three points for a win

so the current team is just as inconsistent as the Dale of 14 years ago - sober warning for those who overreact to one result

Back in 2010 we had won 1-0/2-0/3-0/4-0 and we went
To Torquay who were bottom of the league. We needed
a win to get promotion so i had a £10 bet for us to win by
5-0 at I think 14-1. We LOST by the same score. My bookke
Btother in law informed me if I’d have done a reverse forecast
I’d have had odds of something like 80-1
I suppose that’s one of the perils of being a Dale fan

Sorry to urinate on your pomme-frites, but the four games before Torquay were:

4-2 win at Accrington
4-1 home win over Grimsby
2-0 loss at Chesterfield
0-0 home draw with Bournemouth

I traveled down to Torquay that weekend for the game ended up spending a fortune cheering myself up afterwards 😂.

we had wins by those scores

I see. There's probably been a few other seasons like that, though. Still, worth a punt.

I hope BBM has found some spark or something . I am his most ardent critic , but well done last night . Long may it continue, we dont expect 5 every week but if you put that performance in place you wont loose many games.
I remember that S""tport Cheaty game very well . That result certainly came out of the blue. Think their keeper had most clean sheets before then ( guy at Crystal Palace now , though not sure) .

Inclined to think we threw that one to win promotion at a home game but we didn't have to let 5 in !

A sense of perspective- we have scored 9 goals in the plymouth and wigan away games combined.

Twice in the 1970s we managed only 13 goals in an entire season of 23 away games. In the words of Mary Hopkin, those were the days my friend, we thought they’d never end.

Also happened in one season in 1990s.

We scored even fewer away goals (12) in the last season before the war but that was in fewer games (21).

Off the subject a fair bit but back in around 89 under terry Dolan we had a ridiculous run of win lose results, regardless of if home or away we won 1 then lost 1. It was something like 18 games in a row like that and pretty sure we hardly drew any that season.

The only thing that makes me a little unsure this happened is I may have been going off the fixture wall chart, so rearranged games may have meant the W L run included those. Either way it was odd.

What a memory!

Yes 1989-90 we drew only 6 games all season including a string of results from 30 sep to Dec 2 as follows

lwlwlwlwlwlw

12 games. However after the first 11 of them there was a 1-1 draw withChester in the Mickey Mouse cup.

The run started with a 2-1 loss at Chesterfield following a 0-0 draw at Hatlepool and ended when we had a second consecutive win at home to Lincoln in the FACup.

Our next draw (not counting the Chester game) was with Aldershot on Dec 30. Thats 15 games and 94 days without a draw.

Contrast that with our first promotion. After first game of season we had 6 consecutive draws...0-0 followed by 5 1-1s, with Steve Melledew scoring the goal in each of the 5 games. We than had a 2-0 loss and a 6-0 win before four more 0-0 draws on the trot. 10 draws in 12 games.

I can only find Melledews run of scoring bettered by William Fergusson (6 goals in 6 games, 1925-26) and Albert Whitehurst who had a 6 and a 7 game scoring streaks in 1926-27, his record setting 47 goal season. He scored 15 in 7 games from Nov 20 to Dec 27 (including 10 goals in 3 games around Xmas), and another 8 in 6 games between Feb 26 and April 2. He also scored in the Manchester Cup loss to Manchester North End during that run which would make it another 7 game scoring run for those who might like to include games of the mickey mouse variety.

The Chester game was 0-0 and the Hartlepool draw was at home.

Pools arrived at Spotland with only one point from six games and having lost 6-0 at Stockport on the previous Friday night.

In 97/98, Graham Barrow’s second season out of three, we only drew twice before the end of January. That was 29 games; won 9, lost 18.

Ended up drawing only seven all season.

Some more stats...

Last night we kept our 1050th clean sheet in league football

Dale kept their 100th league clean sheet in December

Jimmy Ryan made his 50th Dale appearance

Dale have scored inside the first 10 minutes in each of their last three away games [The significance of that will take some time to research]

Dale scored more goals (5) last night than they had in their previous 13 visits to Wigan (4)

It was Dale's first away win on 15th December, having lost the previous four

It was Dale's best-ever away win on a Tuesday

Decided not to go to Stockport as thought we would get nothing and didn't want to spend an afternoon in the open sat down. Came out of B & Q at 3.20 to find out we were four up.
