3098 20:14 - May 8 with 3407 views | D_Dale | It's a topic that's been almost done to death, but celebrating Dale's 10th place in L1 is a bit tarnished by ending in 24th position in terms of home attendances (an average of 3098): http://www.worldfootball.net/attendance/eng-league-one-2015-2016/1/ Last season's average was I believe 3309, which means a fall of an average of 211 fans per match. Still, Dale finished with a league position above Sheffield Utd, in spite of their 19, 803 average crowd!
3098 on 20:28 - May 8 with 3351 views | Luke8686 | More alarmingly, our average with home fans only is only 2348, down from 2504 last season and lower than our last season in League Two. Let's hope the kids snap up the 'free' season tickets over the summer!
3098 on 20:29 - May 8 with 3341 views | YouTubeDale | Some teams such as Crewe count season ticket holders whether they turn up or not. It will be very interesting what happens to our crowd numbers next season when we push the 7 -11 year old category. Obviously the relatively recent success of Man City doesn't help our cause.

Now that's an education. I didn't know that, I wondered how it worked. You never stop learning.

A 6.3% drop in home attendances in the context of a Northern centric league. The standard of football is the best we have seen; the marketing efforts we are told are comparable or better than the prior year. The only thing you can conclude is price is a key factor for home support and that that support will pick and choose its games when financially constrained. Next season will be worse; which is fine whilst we have away attendances and transfers fees to cover the gaps. But on securing the stadium the brag was it was "the biggest professional sport venue in the borough of Rochdale" The club need to provide accessible pricing to all in the borough.

Your last sentence is the absolute key to the attendance at each and every match. Season tickets are too expensive. Those on tight budgets will not/can not shell out £400 (or the best part of it) in cash, for something they aren't going to use for several months. The club will not move on the requirements they apply for payment and refuse to consider other options. That is their prerogative. It is also the prerogative of supporters to decide not to buy the season tickets at the prices offered, and therefore pay on the gate as and when they choose to do so. Once you don't actually have a season ticket, there is less 'obligation' to attend games because there is no money 'invested' in the fixture. Being present at the match then becomes less important financially and so the numbers dwindle. It's a slippery slope. Price is the key above all else. (Subject to admin fee)

Yes, it's as simple as that.

preaching to the converted on here. its those in charge at the club who continue to ignore the supporters as well as what just about every other club is doing or trying. its a crying shame that the football side of the club get no proper support from the marketing side of the club.
3098 on 23:52 - May 8 with 2878 views | D_Alien | Beechy seemed lost for words when asked about this during the post-match interview. That must reflect to a large extent the prevailing attitude within the club - a shrug of the shoulders. Today we can all celebrate the end of another successful campaign (highest points total) but for a long period of the season between late November and March quite a few regulars seeemed to drift away with an awkward disconnect being discussed every week on here. That's gone now, but that's where the deficit in home support from last season lies.

Despite being relegated, the similar sized Crewe Alexandra got 1400+ more in attendance per game than us. I'll leave this here... http://www.crewealex.net/documents/season-ticket-pricing-structure-2016232-30331
3098 on 09:44 - May 9 with 2538 views | 1907 | We live in one of the poorest areas in Britain. These tickets prices are not sustainable for our borough. If we play two home games in a week that could equait to a quarter of someone's weekly salary. How can the club not see that? There has to be a reduction in ticket prices subsidised by some alternative form of revenue. I am a big fan of the directors and fully appreciate all they do for us, however they just don't seem to appreciate how critical this issue is for most average fans. You have never had such a good product to market, price it fairly!

Can't blame our low attendances on City I don't think, it's only ever half full.

But it's half full with people who have likely paid less to watch Premiership football than if they had come to Spotland for a League One game..,,,
