What do you want Rochdale Association Football Club to be? 22:10 - May 24 with 2742 viewsJames1980

I know this has probably been answered in many other threads over the years, but thought this thread could be a definitive of what us fans want.
No names but personalities and skill set of key staff. Playing style, aspirations etc.

It never needed to try and be anything it wasn’t. A reasonably well run lower division football club which focused on developing players and teams ,one which put fans at the heart of everything it does by listening to opinion and constructive criticism and acting upon it.

For far too long, even prior to the current regime, that latter part was overlooked in favour of ‘football people’ knowing best. They didn’t then and they don’t now.

There’s little more to add, because then it dilutes what we could and should be.

For me back to the days of not so long ago where the Dale had a proper board to over see things and lead by an active hands on chairman..
With Dale occaisionally punching above their weight in cup matches and more importantly a regular in the top half of Lge1 again with a dilly dally of a top 7 run....

The club needs a new leader from the chair and never to have a CEO in operation again.....

Finally more supporter imput on the board..

I want us to be the Dale we used to be. One where the people running the football club did so without the need to be seen to be heroes but had the football club's best interests at heart and not their own.

A club that strived to achieve a status a little big bigger than we are and the journey to get there was enjoyable, hard working and honest.

I club I feel proud to support despite being small and one that treats the supporters how they should be treated.

In no particular order I want a club with the following traits:

Good governance
Ambition
Inclusivity
Entertaining
Sustainability

(from where I'm sat, we have very little or none of the above right now despite pundits putting a tag for the 4th on that list round our necks for a run of games when our defence went awol).

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

Truthful.

I’ve thought about this question quite a lot, and on top of all the things you mention I’d say one thing we’re associated with and rightfully lauded for is our commitment to youth. If a new board came in and did everything right but said they were disbanding the Academy I’d be so disappointed.

free of Bottomley and BBM....neither are fit for purpose.

None of the other things people aspire to can happen while they remain in posts. Means to our desired ends.

What attributes do the right manager and CEO have as far as you are concerned?

This goes back to my earlier post. The issues are not confined to individuals but to the culture and the environment. For a number of years sight has been lost of what mattered.

Let’s not pretend all was perfect 4/5 years ago either, it’s just that the team and results were able to distract for most. To change that requires individuals and a collective to accept they could and should do better, then to actually prove it. It’s nothing more complicated than that.

The manager should be able to read a league table

The CEO should know the difference between truth and lies

... and for them to stop trying to be clever when they’re really not.

It’s quite remarkable actually.
