Real Ale Clique.. 19:09 - Aug 25 with 4630 views | ncfc_chalky | Whilst strolling around Southampton I chanced upon a real shop and purchased the following.... Leffe Ruby....£3 Samuel Smith Yorkshire Stingo...£6 Milestones Rasberry Wheat beer....£7 And finally, DRK ISLD RSRV at a whopping £9 for a posh looking 330ml bottle (10â„…) Anybody tried the them,I'm presuming that you don't chuck the DRK ISLD in a half pint glass and just neck it?

Real Ale Clique.. on 20:44 - Aug 25 with 3300 views | Walboro | Some of the nicest beers I’ve tasted recently have come from Abbeydale Brewery Sheffield and even better at £2.70 a pint. Won’t touch Sam Smiths though. [Post edited 25 Aug 2020 20:45]

The Blonde is nicer. £3 at Tesco 2 for £5 at the Co-op on Rooley Moor Road. Duvel Citra is very good (8%) and some of the Trappist beers are as high as 11 and 12%. Lidl sell a box of 6 Belgian select beers for £11.99, great value all of which are 7% and above. Next time you're in Belgium go to Poperinge and visit any of the bars there. Best selection of beers you'll find in a very small area.

I might venture to Lidl that does sound a good deal. Personally the strong ales hold little appeal but some of the trappist ales are magnificent. Give me a Copper Dragon Golden Pippin any-day of the week a mighty fine session ale from Skipton. Saltaire Blonde easily picked up at Asda 4 bottles for £5. Another good drink. Notable mention goes to Bread and Butter ale from Vocation ( Hebden Bridge ) occasionally served at the Flyer and another fine drop!! Getting older but the 3.9% session ales are fine by me!.

Bloody hell,I bet that they don't sell many of those at that price,I always envisioned the Black Dog to be a bit of a rough pub the way that you've talked about bdb,not some swanky bar

All beer, soft drinks crisps etc rocketed up price wise when it reopened. To be fair, it’s not a rough pub, very rare there is any trouble in there, not full of crack heads either. Many years ago now, used to do Kareoke / live music so got a reputation but nothing like that now. Sam Smiths is an acquired taste & his rules put most people off it, a mate of mine from Bacup was in Wales last week & got talking to someone from Rochdale & he lives on Rooley Moor, my mate said do you go in the Dog? - he said, wouldn’t be seen dead in there 🤨

Have drunk bread and butter, and ilkley blonde this weekend at the Hare on the Hill and the Flyer. Golden pippin is designed to be drunk in quantities of eight or more, it’s fabulous

Real Ale Clique.. on 20:47 - Sep 13 by Plattyswrinklynuts | If you ever make it up to the frozen north Chalks I’d recommend a trip to Sowerby/Hebden Bridge. The Hogshead Brew house in Sowerby is excellent, 4 own brewed beers & 4 guests, quality... |
Not a patch on Hollins Mill, but then again, Sowerby in general is great for real ale fans, including Hogshead [Post edited 13 Sep 2020 20:53]

Fair point D_A, never made it that far due to time/train/bladder constraints...

Some cracking pubs within a mile of the ground here, not all Robinson’s local ale, a lot of great micro brewers represented in pubs here.

Know what you mean, maybe next time Getting off the train, it's always tempting to pop into the station bar, and it's downhill all the way from there, almost literally! [Post edited 13 Sep 2020 21:10]

Just a 'heads-up' for anyone interested, Lidl are currently selling the 6 Belgian Beers boxed selection at £11.99. Excellent buy at that price. The Spotland Road branch had about a dozen boxes on the shelf at noon today (after I'd bought mine ) They won't be there very long. Usually a good seller. Cheers

They are: 1x 7.2%, 1 x9% and 4x 10.5%. At less than £2 a bottle, they not only taste excellent, they are cracking value.
