If we did get promoted he would be able to make the step up, although we would need to bring in competition/depth in that position. If Gordon does re-sign we have all of our key players signed up for at least next season and have the flexibility to improve in other areas when other players' contracts expire at the end of the season.

This is the crucial thing for me. A major factor this season is that we didn't have to sell anyone - either in the summer or in the winter transfer window - and have kept the core team for a second full season. Not just the spine - practically the whole squad - and have recruited to add depth and competition, not to replace outgoings (apart from Mani D for Mitchell). Regardless whether we get promotion or not, next season will be the third full year keeping this set of players together. Never in my history of being a dale has this been a luxury we could afford. Of course, we might get a crazy bid in the summer for the likes of Gilmour or Beckwith that tempts them despite signing contracts, but I cant see that happening. One thing this set of players seem to value is being part of a very cohesive, successful unit. It must be a great place to turn up for work each day.

| EEL New Deal on 18:06 - Mar 6 with 1254 views | frenzied | I’d written him off at the beginning of the season. He’s done far better than expected and kept relatively fit. It’s still an area we need to strengthen should we go up. Deserves the extra year has a great attitude and work ethic | | | |

| EEL New Deal on 19:34 - Mar 6 with 1067 views | 442Dale | Getting our captain and most experienced player tied down for another year is as crucial as any other signing. Not least because of his leadership qualities and commitment to how we develop as a team and club. He hasn’t always been perfect, who in lower league football is, but he has actually improved as a player in his time at the club. The unfair criticism (and at times quite ridiculous disrespect), which ironically reached a crescendo against tomorrow’s opponents a year ago, seems a distant memory. | |
