Mine would be Brick Lane. I used to go regularly for Bagels but the area has been ruined by people thinking it is trendy and Essex boys on a weekend drinking binge.

The south London hinterland around Croydon / Penge / etc. Full of Chelsea and twa*ts

I can assure you Croydon and especially Penge are staunchly Palace supporters.

Stratford is the most soulless, charmless dump. Good shout also for Canary Wharf.

South London - enough said

i know its not London but i feel the need to say Essex , i fcuking hate most people from Essex , (not you ,Disco old boy) i hate their stupid mockney accents alrigghht darling, leave it aht , nahh mate, shuhht ap, being ones that drive me mental
blokes with Pink jackets and side partings , stupid thick birds with fake tans driving 4x4 they cannot park,
ex drug dealers living in mock tudor mansions,
anyone over the age of 40 who think they are Pate Tates best mate
they all support West Ham and are as thick as sh*t
living in Northampton as i do , people here my accent and always ask what part of Essex am i from, i have to refrain from chinning them,

Some good Rangers boys in South London...

Richmond upon Thames. Full of snobs, Tristrans and Buntys and people declaring neighbouring Kingston a slum area.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

A bit off-topic, but I live in Muswell Hill (I know, posh,eh?) and often walk past a lovely big house on Fortis Green Rd where I can see an old printed black and white sign mounted on a living room wall which says "To Queens Park Rangers".
This is miles from Rangers territory, and I am tempted to ring the bell or stick a card through the door to suggest we meet and travel to a game together, but I always hesitate in case he (or she) thinks I`m prying or a bit of a saddo.

Grew up in the Burnt Oak, Edgware and Colindale area and moved away 12 years ago my god the area has gone downhill and quickly. Whenever I drive through the area now I cant quite believe how bad it has become. Colindale is just one massive building site, new flats everywhere on infrastructure that just about managed to cope when I lived there.

The whole area seems to be a hell-hole and that comes from someone that now lives in Stevenage.

It's an interesting point.

I agree with SOG: I think “chav” is a horrible, sneering word that’s basically shorthand for working class, white people. I’ve heard people labelled “chavvy” when out and about, when the person saying it’s had no idea whether the person they’re talking about is the most lovely, community-minded, hard-working soul going or not; they’ve simply judged them on their appearance. It’s a term that allows middle-class people to slag-off working class people who don’t share the same tastes in/budgets for clothing, food, home decor or whatever, and have a little chuckle about it because the “chavs” deserve their contempt because more often than not they're "scum".

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

For once I agree with SoG.

Point of order: is there anywhere in London that's not full of either chavs or Tristans? And can we breed the chavs and Tristans to make some perfectly balanced new sort of Londoner?

Imagine majority of people who post on here are somewhere between the two like many born & bred Londoners.

However admitting this doesn't suit a lot of folk who sit in their comfort zone hating anyone who isnt like them.

Discuss

I know almost nothing about the Premier League even though I try to catch the big games every now and then at the end of the season. But I will say this, Queens Park Rangers is just a fukking sick ass team name. Just sounds so cool.

Yep solid Palace and rightly so as the local team.

A small surgical strike on Camden - although an nice enough area would take out a fair few annoying people.

You forgot to mention that a Chav is always an English white person.

It's a derogatory term against poor white English people.

I don't agree with you on much/anything, but I do here. I don't care about the use of it, as I am happy to offend everybody equally, but it is a derogatory term for poor working class white people. 'Council Housed And Violent'

Clapham is up there for me....full of aussies, posh idiots and rugby boys and people who have just moved to London and think it's edgy because it's in zone 2 and once a week they may walk past a black person. rant over. The good thing about it is it tends to keep all the aussies, posh boys and non londoners away from the rest of us.

In reality neither area has much of London left about them.

anywhere descrcibed as 'vibrant' where jewish pensioners get burning shit through their letterbox., and old world war veteran wilf can buy bush meat from the congo in queens road market instead of jellied eels.possibly getting his throat cut for his pension like that poor man in the standard last night in bow.

and where old flo from the munitions factory can learn how to pack her surgical tights with explosives, become isolated in any number of hook handed education centers instead of going to the bingo or an afternoon matinee of 'its a wonderful life'.

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I love London so
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I think of her wherever I go

I get a funny feeling inside of me
When walking up and down
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I love London Town

dont worry flo you'll meet wilf again soon.. some sunny day.

Never thought I'd say it but glad to be out of it. Haven't been there for nearly two years now. Brighton was parochial but better schooling options when the kids were growing up.
Happier in Spain, and I never thought I'd say that either.

Never really liked anywhere East, pretty soulless. South was ok in parts, Brixton mostly, but Streatham etc were always grim from memory. West is still best but the R's aside I have little will to return. Spain, off thetourist trail, has it's challenges. The change in Uxbridge from 2000 when I left to 2012 was both shocking and grim.

agree about Uxbridge, its like Warsaw now
saying that everything around their has changed for the worst over the last 10 or so years , Ealing, West Ealing, Sudbury, even parts of Ruislip is now populated by Danny Dyer wannabees bowling around in reebok classics
im glad I sold my flat in Perivale 13 years ago and went to Northamptonshire I would never go back to live in London or the outskirts
like you Brighton my old girl lives in spain she hates coming back

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Bizarrely The book I'm reading 'Britain Against Napoleon' has just mentioned Bow and Four Mills.

Apparently they aimed to build a dam and floating gate to flood the Lea Valley if Boney turned up. It was abandoned in 1805.
