Well this should make for a fun afternoon on here...

CHRIS RAMSEY APPOINTED TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Ramsey to head up new role within QPR Academy

CHRIS Ramsey has been appointed Technical Director at QPR.

Ramsey will be responsible for a variety of roles relating to coaching and player development.

The 53 year-old will oversee all aspects of coaching and coach education within the Academy, and be responsible for developing and implementing player development strategies.

He will also oversee the integration between the Academy, Development Squad and First Team, as well as focusing on the monitoring and reporting of players on loan to other clubs.

Ramsey will also develop and implement the scouting strategy to include the necessary processes and procedures to acquire players, and develop and implement club partnership programmes at both domestic and international level to facilitate greater market accessibility, exchange of best practice, and development / exit opportunities for players.

Director of Football, Les Ferdinand, explained why Ramsey — who was relinquished of his First Team duties in early November — is the ideal candidate for the role, commenting: “Whilst we were disappointed things didn’t work out with Chris at First Team level earlier in the season, we were determined to retain his services at QPR.

“As such, we actually put a clause in his contract which allowed us to retain Chris’s services in a player-development role should things not work out for him as Head Coach.

“Chris knows Academy football inside-out and having put the building blocks in place for a lot of the good restructuring work that’s been done here over the past 11 months, he can come in and make an instant impact in an environment he has helped build.”

''so because Spurs kept him on a decade where the best youngsters go, so what
out of those 10 years only Kane and Rose have been regulars and that's down to pocchertino , that's poor considering the youngsters they have had is it not ''

HOW good a coach is Chris Ramsey? A swift glance at the next Tottenham team sheet should tell you everything.

When the 53-year-old arrived at White Hart Lane as assistant to academy chief John McDermott in 2005, the last youth product to truly make the grade was Ledley King, by then nudging 26.

A decade on, you can barely move for homegrown talent; Harry Kane and Ryan Mason, Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb and Andros Townsend. Steven Caulker is on loan at Southampton, Jake Livermore a regular at Hull.

Most in the Premier League. Many of them internationals. All guided by the nurturing hand of Ramsey.

“He was massive for all of us,” says French midfielder Bentaleb, now 20. “He believed in us, he encouraged us. He told the manager we were ready when everyone else believed we were not. He was not shy or scared of anybody and he knew exactly what he wanted.”

Great post, not sure how anyone can argue with that, straight from the horses mouth.

To be honest I'm not really that bothered who we've got as a youth coach, it's had such a nominal impact at the club for so long I've become rather immune to it all. Ramsey can't do any worse than whatever we've had for ages now, so no biggie.

Steve Highway - Liverpool,
Tony Carr - West Ham ( excellent youth coach)
Kevin Mcdonald (Villa)
Jason Dodd (Southampton)
Liam Brady (Arsenal until last year)
Mike Dodds Birmingham
Les Reed, Charlton
Paul McGuiness , Man Utd

Tito Vilanova & Jan Neeskans were around when the Barca players were coming through, but that's Barcalona

so because Spurs kept him on a decade where the best youngsters go, so what
out of those 10 years only Kane and Rose have been regulars and that's down to pocchertino , that's poor considering the youngsters they have had is it not
also he was on a cushy number for a few of those years as he was mates with Les & Tim
what about his dreadful record of working with Englands kids ?
why hasn't any of the top clubs since spurs been after this "proven " academy coach
why was our football dreadful when he was "head coach"
who has a footballer has improved since he has been here

Kane, Rose, Townsend, Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll, Onomah, Pritchard coming through to
PL level have absolutely nothing to do with Pochettino, unless you're suggesting he was popping over to Tottenham on the sly for the past decade after training in his playing day to take academy training.

Even if you genuinely considered that a poor turnout from an academy, in which case you'd be me mental, in the past 3 years, they've had 18 players sold/released to Championship or high standard clubs.

As already said by Dave, two of the best academy minds in the country - Les Reed & Paul Hart - also proved to be out of their depth at the top table, so your belief that being a crap first team manager precludes him ever working in football again is rather baffling to be honest.

As it must be said is your belief that Sherwood & Ferdinand - who were both on the same coaching level as him - somehow helped him retain a job for a decade at one of the best run, and most ruthless clubs around.

Today's times says the club had him on a three year contract that allowed them to demote him back to the academy if the manager post did not go well and this was what they did in November. He took advice from the LMA who told him he had no legal option for unfair dismissal so has returned for the time being while he seeks another managers position elsewhere.

If that is true not a long term appointment there eh?

where else does he need to prove himself? Where had Les Read done a good job apart from Charlton before he got the Southampton job? he put all that in place at Spurs to make them one of the best academies so did a good job with them.

He might do similar with us or might make a mess of it but he can't make the academy at QPR any worse so not sure what the problem is.

On his tactics he did try to get us playing quick passing football but both last season and this the players rebelled and said they needed to go more direct so it changed. That doesn't say much for him as a first team manager admittedly but that won't be his job

If Les Reed can prove himself at Charlton where they have so much competition for youngsters than he can do it anywhere, he has proven himself and has done it at Southampton, that's 2 clubs ,
Ramsey had the best kids , the best set up at Spurs , its was a nice number for any coach to take
as Ive said his record with England's kids is abysmal , his record with us is the same

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Message board classic - becoming angry about something that hasn't happened yet.

"Oh Ramsey is one of the finest technical British coaches working in the game at the moment, responsible for an onset of talented young English players into the Spurs first team apparently capable of driving them onto the Champions League places for the first time in nearly 10 years.

"BUT if he should come into my local boozer, and start using blue language, in the family room, I'd say OI. RAMSEY. NO!"

Such a nice number they hadn't brought a single kid through to the first team since Ledley King before he got there.

Anyway, judging by The Times piece, he won't be around long anyway, which is fairly farcical.

'kin hell man, we get it. He's done something personal to you. Look, he was at Spurs for a decade. If he'd had 10 different jobs at 10 different clubs during that time would that make him more acceptable to you?
Like I've said previously, he was a disaster as a manager but does that mean he'd be a disaster in any other profession? Should he be allowed to ever work again?

why you getting out of your Pram ??
im simply stating why I don't buy him as a "proven " academy coach, ive given my reasons and backed them up, you can do the same but all anyone has is the 10 years at Spurs ,
he can work where he wants , i simply refuse to join this mass notion that we have a brilliant youth team coach in our grasp ,

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Why do you keep banging on about his time at the FA? Presumably he got them for a couple of training sessions every month and to win his role would have been more management/gelling a team together than development surely?

If he'd have taken the U16's to win the tournament you'd probably credit the Les Reeds of the world for the work they do with the players throughout the season instead of crediting Ramsey anyway.

But your reason that Spurs is some sort of cushy number for youth coaches is rather derailed by the number of players who progressed through their ranks to their first team before him (King, and ten years before that Campbell) and since he got there is it not? If it was such an easy job, why did nobody else do it?

Playing youngsters in the 1st team is down to the manager at that time, is it not ??
look at Chelsea & City they have the best youth set up in the league but they don't play any kids,
would Harry Kane , Bentaleb, & co have played under Harry at Spurs, I think we know the answer to that , and during this golden era of Spurs youngsters why did the board then buy the likes of Stamboli, Capoue, Paulhiniho, Fazio, soldado, and other assorted crap from abroad ,
its only when Shewrwood and Pocchertinio came in that they started playing some of these kids, it takes courage as manager to bring kids through these days

also Spurs in the ledley king period period had Clemance, Luke Young, Carr , Alton Thelwell, Anthony Gardner, Johnnie Jackson, Dean Marney, Stephen Kelly, Rohan Ricketts, Lee Barnard, Hossam Gharly,
they all came through up until 2004

If it was such an easy job, why did nobody else do it?

And in addition, he's moaning about that being his only big job. But he was there for 10 years. Why does he need any other big roles? He's early 50s and was a footballer before that, so with the decade at Spurs and few years with the younger England set-up, how many other jobs is he supposed to have to satisfy some people?

It's the academy coaches job to make players good enough to be in the first team, it's the managers job to be brave enough to pick them (if he's afforded that luxury by the chairman).

Ramsey & co were so successful that when spurs did get a manager that was brave enough to play youth teamers he had a plethora of options available. Maybe not all good enough to be first 11, but nearly all the Tottenham SQUAD is made up of players that were under the guidance of Ramsey - Mason, Kane, Bentaleb, Townsend, etc. Pochettino deserves credit for recognising that they're good enough and then playing them, but they wouldn't even be there as an option if Ramsey and the rest of the Tottenham youth set up were not very good at what they do. Those players are not good enough just cos they got picked, they're good enough because they were made ready.

I'm happy to hear how Ramsey was not a great manager, how his in-game management was poor and how he set the team up and played in a way that meant we were too easily carved open, etc. But trying to discredit his coaching credentials comes across as completely agenda driven. If he had never been manager of QPR, nobody would be questioning if he;s a good youth coach or not.

Take your point about the manager not picking the youth players. You're scraping the barrel with that list mind - Lee Barnard That's like your persistent claim we should be appointing Jackie McNamara as our new manager.

Anyway, like I say, if The Times is right, he'll be on his way soon enough. Looks like a ruse to avoid a pay off going on our FFP record when you read it like that.
