The budget shouldn't have been slashed. We had £1,087,251 in the bank on 31st May 2015 as per the latest published accounts. I know a full season has passed since then and we have paid a chunk for the ground (was it £529k over 9 years at commercial rates, being £59k per year excluding interest ?). So we should still be sat on a wedge because of our prudent nature. Or am I missing something?

Surely our season ticket revenue hasn't fallen off a cliff. It would be good if the club could update us further on that. Assuming we have come close to matching last year's revenue at this time of the year (year on year) then we should have money to spend. Or am I missing something?

And yes, the signing of RNL does raise a few eyebrows. We know he has potential and he is still young but he needs to add so much more. He can shoot and pass but his energy levels needs to be much higher. Donal sets a decent standard re energy and RNL should at least match it.

On season tickets:
http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/article/thank-you-3136340.aspx

Not sure why there are concerns about ST revenue. The Club were approached by the Trust with concerns and ideas from supporters, they chose to stick to the prices that had been set. If the response was "over-whelming" then they were presumably correct to do so.

Onto RNL coming back: I liked him as a player at first in as far as you could see there's something there, however nobody could argue with him being released so it would be interesting to hear the manager's views on the change of mind.

It says a lot that Eccleston and Thompson have had to prove their worth whilst RBL seemingly turns up and gets a deal.

Hills interview as good as said they were inconsistent. Better the devil you know? Odd decision though played well first game of last season and then faded rapidly.

Was he asked if they were going to get a deal? You'd think that would come up.

Revenues from television deals etc, etc have also increased this year so the Club will benefit from that. Like I said, There's no way Hills budget will have been reduced, why would you risk losing the most successful manager in the Clubs history by doing that?

If I was a betting man , which I am , I would put my money on it being increased. It's worth taking that gamble to remain in League One, that's obvious. It's a time to relax, take stock and review the situation again in Autumn. I think the squad will look a lot different in six weeks time.

Maybe RNL has been brought in as full back cover? Kennedy's gone, Cannon and Tanser are facing a make or break season and Rafferty didn't exactly shine on Tuesday. Even Vincenti had a brief stint there at Fylde.

its difficult to judge the trialists on 90 minutes football, but agree not sure about them, we will ee after weekend, Rnl knows he is on last chance so will have to work harder, remember we releases scott wiseman and resigned him and look what happened there

You would hope that he will be on a very low basic, with bonuses for playing, scoring and winning. Still, hard to understand this one, but there must be some logical reasoning to it...

It doesn't fill me with optimism but I can just about live with RNL returning to the Club. Everytime I watch him I always think that there's more inside him, like he's not playing at his maximum, playing with the handbrake on?

He could be great for us but the biggest worry I have about him is his lack of fitness and injury problems, it's reasonable to make those assumptions isn't it? We gave him 2 years to prove himself and he didn't, so what's suddenly changed?

Hillys putting himself out on a limb with this one and leaving himself open to allegations of losing the plot. Just like Holness, this one is very bizzare but obviously i really hope it works out. By the way, what was the reason for us releasing him, anybody know how many games he started for us last Season?

Im sure that this is down to the fact that the loan system is changing this season, and teams needing to carry larger squads. I think it has dawned on Hill, maybe after looking at what is available, that he would rather have someone he knows and trusts, rather than take a risk on loaning in.

OK, that's a perfectly reasonable explanation and I will accept it. Keep RNL fit and I can see the sense in the signing now, thanks leedsdale.

I'm hanging my hat on that, hope you're right. I actually think RNL has got the tools but his fitness/ injury problems hold him back. If Hilly thinks he can change things then maybe he is worth keeping for another year. He owes Hilly a big thank you though because he didn't deliver last season, that's not even a argument.

Spoke to Reubs recently. He's been training elsewhere obviously, trying to keep in shape. Not spoken since I heard this news today. I'm surprised with it. I was surprised when he first joined Dale because Keith never seemed to fancy him at Oakwell despite forever bigging him up. And at Dale, he's barely played really and when he has, he's not done enough.

He's suffered a lot with injuries already in his short career, never seems to get a good run. I don't think his time with Flicker helped, he's obsessed with sticking lads "in the dungeon" as he called it, to build up their muscles to "injury prevent". No shit, he actually once said that. Because to say "to prevent injury" is just too boring...

He was a striker in the academy years ago, he was brought into our first team far, far, far, far too early, by Simon Davey who was massively under pressure at the time and was trying to hide behind injuries and a lack of players, so he picked a lad just turned 15 or whatever. I think Reubs is still the youngest ever player to play in the FL. Might have changed though, it's been 6 or 7 years. But once he was introduced properly by Mark Robins it was as a number 10. Then, he sort of became a winger once Keith arrived and bothered to use him. Flicker saw him as a left wing back.

He's a striker or number 10. Work a bit of room, unleash a shot, bingo. Asking him to chase around like David Perkins or have a frame like Joe Bunney and he'll end up released, again.

Good luck to him. I hope he finally flourishes, he's a lovely lad. Didn't Keith once re-sign Matty Done, Scott Hogan and Scott Wiseman?

Not a bad post. You might be right about him, get him in a position to have a pop at goal, he can hit a ball but so could George and look what happened to him....and the ball. The jury's out.

Leighanne never asks probing questions. I am sure she is not allowed to.

She does have a big tendency to repeat back what the player/ manager/ whoever has just said.

River says I have enjoyed my first day.
Leighanne then says...Have you enjoyed your first day?

Believe me, he didn't earn that contract at shrewsbury.

For me he was top of the list of players i wanted out this season.

Im hoping hilly is some form of comedy genius and simply wants to play on biggest comeback since lazarus and then once again cancel the contract next week.

If this is the best we can do, we're fooked.

This seemed a typical Whitey post, full and reasoned, until I got to that sentence about RNL as a 'striker', unleashing shots and then 'bingo'.

RNL has scored 5 goals in 79 league games. That appears to make getting a goal as rare as winning a bingo jackpot.

I see you've bagged Tom Bradshaw, although most of the rumours linked him with a move to Rotherham. He won't have come cheap.

There is an interview with Hill on Daleplayer; it's quite lengthy, but the main messages are:

RNL is a risk free signing and he has made a "big sacrifice" with his wages. Thinks this will be a wake up call for him

We need 4 quality players who are better than what we have, but this is difficult as wage demands are continually increasing and lots of teams splashing the cash around

Eccleston has left the club to pursue other options, but Hill wasn't blown away by him so no loss

Robinson still at club but also hasn't overly impressed, expects this weekend to bring some developments

Expects Prem and Championship clubs to decide nearer the end of August about loaning players out, and at the moment we aren't in a position to loan players out

No new trialists for this weekend, but one or two members of senior staff may make an appearance at the weekend, not concerned as feels this allows direct coaching of younger players

"No idea" if we will sell a younger player this summer, although in all probability over the next 12-18 months it is likely, but as the manager he will fight to keep his best players

Overall he seemed happier than Tuesday (not difficult) but still realistic about the task at hand.
