Gone much too young. A Rangers legend for That Goal alone. A definite I was there highlight. I've never been back there since on the basis it could never be better (I was wrong).

Gutted to hear this. My age. Will never forget the goal at Stamford Bridge. And the semi final. Was at both of them. These are lifetime memories and I treasure them even more now. He sounded like a really good guy to me. And respect for carving out a great career in a new country and a new language.

My favourite player of that era as a kid, thus my profile pic.

RIP Michael and we’ll always have Stamford Bridge

RIP Michael

More than a few years ago now, I was explaining QPR to a Spanish family. They had never heard of us or any of our legends but they got really excited, when I mentioned Michael. Thanks for everything, I was a bit too young to appreciate you fully but I do remember you fondly

I was just watching video of the 1986 league cup sf 2-2 at Anfield. He really had a smile on his face after that as he was being interviewed by ITV.

That and the special goal will always be great memories for any R, old enough to have seen them.

Thank you Michael.

Watched that game on a tiny TV in a bar in Ireland and the match commentator gave him credit for both of our goals .A magic night and I decided that moment to make the trip over for the final.
Shame he is gone but his suffering is over .RIP

That goal alone should get him elected into Forever R's. He will be long remembered

yeah, at that game, the ball seemed to drift in so slowly, we knew it was going in, celebrating as soon as he hit it. Pure joy.

RIP Micheal.

RIP Michael, never saw him play but as another English expat in Spain, I really respect his life over here. Showed all the best qualities of being English (yes I know he played for Ireland...but still) as opposed to those types jumping off balconies in Magaluf that the news here and in the UK like to portray. Widely regarded as a visionary in sports broadcasting too.

wasn't at the game but listened on the radio and when he scored the commentators couldn't believe it. Seemed like a really nice bloke.

RIP; a sad loss at a ridiculously young age

Will always be remembered by QPR fans for that goal..Spaniards will have appreciated his contribution after his playing days were over.

For those who don't have the time to watch the whole vid...just skip through and start from 18mins. Apart from the goal, there are two points of interest, a/ Robinson was a top bloke and b/ John Hollins wasn't.

The Spanish Football Podcast have an exceptional podcast on him. A genuinely moving and sincere heartfelt tribute.

Another great article on Robinson from The Guardian - I knew he was a commentator in Spain but had no idea how big he became there
