| 6 of our Worst signings on 12:56 - Apr 29 with 2169 views | EllDale | Trust me to get mixed up with a referee! Thanks for confirming that. I didn't actually think that Simpkins was that bad (ducks for cover). Steve Arnold was another awful recruit in 1973/74. I honestly don't remember Denton though. | | | |
| 6 of our Worst signings on 13:05 - Apr 29 with 2143 views | ChaffRAFC | Simpkins was so bad. That away game down at Torquay, he gets sent off and fans cheered and were begging the referee to do it. Went on to win after he went off as well. | |
| If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor |

We've had far worse than Simpkins but he was a scapegoat at the time and has remained so every time these lists come up.
| 6 of our Worst signings on 13:24 - Apr 29 with 2095 views | krafty80 | The Barrow era was just a treasure trove of mediocrity in my recollection. I always had a (possibly irrational) dislike of his full backs, Fensome and Sparrow, and Mark Bailey was awful too, especially as he kept Alex Russell out of the side. Ian Bryson was another ageing carthorse who came with a good reputation, left as a perma-crock just picking up a wage. | | | |

Bailey is a great shout.

| 6 of our Worst signings on 13:59 - Apr 29 with 2027 views | D_Alien | Matthew Barnes-Homer Knocked a few in for Macclesfield after leaving us, but couldn't do a single thing right during his short spell Probably not quite the worst, but would press for a bottom six list | |

| 6 of our Worst signings on 14:13 - Apr 29 with 1999 views | rickyprickles | That lad from Bolton, had a great first game then was useless, on a good day! Had the nickname of Spider-Man. But mark carter? My goodness why? Lol | | | |
| 6 of our Worst signings on 14:22 - Apr 29 with 1970 views | 442Dale | Trying to include some that might not have had a mention and with many having had reasonable reviews elsewhere, an XI: 1. Jamie Jones 2. Simon Copeland 3. Jason Hardy 4. John Pender 5. Dave Sutton 6. Andy Farrell 7. Chris Shuker 8. Ian Thompstone 9. Graham Shaw 10. Alan Young 11. Andy Kilner | |

| 6 of our Worst signings on 14:43 - Apr 29 with 1940 views | TipperaryDale | One more for Simpkins. Also thought some of the dross Coleman brought in were awful; Ian Craney anyone? Sean McConville and Terry Gornell were poor as well. | | | |

Gornell was ok but Craney and McConville were both awful.

| 6 of our Worst signings on 15:05 - Apr 29 with 1906 views | davidab2202 | Two from reasonably recent times Issy Christie, might have had a reasonable career but we were one stop too far and the guy who we fought off allegedly several clubs for his signature (his name has slipped so far down my memory bank)--Trimble ??? came from Scotland think he played a couple of games and then disappeared back North | | | |

Jamie Jones was nowhere near as bad as Magnus Norman. He just wasn't better than Josh which is what we needed and therefore he seemed a pointless signing. Chris Shuker was a wonderful player, tore us to shreds for City in a friendly before coming on loan and was effectively too good for the us and couldn't get to grips with playing with inferior players. If we're talking loan players, I'll throw John O'Sullivan in there. Looked a good signing on paper from Blackurn. Poor in his first appearance, awful against bury and I think he had to be carted off not long into the second half and then got a straight red, 12 minutes into his next game, which ended up being his last game.

worst signing doesn't necessarily mean worst player in my book I'd go for Marc Twaddle. Signed as a "left sided centre half".

Aye thats him ,just couldn't remember his name!!!!!
| 6 of our Worst signings on 16:17 - Apr 29 with 1825 views | dale18 | George Donnelly surely needs a mention. Sean McGinty too seem to remember him only playing a few times but was just terrible. | | | |

For me it would be based on expectations. Trotman was seen at the time as being somehwhat of a coup. We have lots of players who were not great, especially when we were bottom feeders of League Two.
| 6 of our Worst signings on 16:56 - Apr 29 with 1778 views | DaleyBrent | My 6 would be: Michael Simpkins Neal Trotman Jon Shaw Nathan Eccleston Roland Bergkamp Magnus Norman | | | |
| 6 of our Worst signings on 17:20 - Apr 29 with 1743 views | boromat | Andy "Bruno" Morris normally gets a mention on these types of threads but I always remember him fondly. Big lump that somehow scored some goals in a bad team. He was a terrible footballer but our lump it up field tactics meant a man of his 'skills' was required. Wikipedia has him scoring 7 in 26 which isn't terrible for a target man. To think we went from him to Clive Platt though who was miles better. | |

I would say he was no worse than Calvin Andrew. I have seen George Donnelly mentioned, but he was at least as good as Andrew, certainly in scoring goals, or creativity of chances. Not saying Andrew should be in the list of six overall worse, but I would say he is certainly one of our least effective as far as goal scoring and creation of chances.

| 6 of our Worst signings on 22:00 - Apr 29 with 1610 views | Boss_Hog | I'd have to say Paul William's and Lee Hodges rank right up there, purely because of what they cost the club in wages against benefits they brought the club. Decent on paper, but shockingly poor contribution once signed and were on big money. The Barrow era can fill many of the other gaps, that said Hilly made some shockers in his latter months. | | | |

| 6 of our Worst signings on 07:58 - Apr 30 with 1483 views | todmordendale | Recently, I would plump for Binman. The only player I have seen who would shy away from an 80/20 ball in his favour. From challenging for play offs it all went shite with the purchase of Inman and Williams. From no fear to loads of it. | | | |

| 6 of our Worst signings on 09:09 - Apr 30 by BigDaveMyCock | There was a rumour that Coleman signed him because he couldn’t initially get Bobby Grant (cue Brookside music) but then, for whatever reason, that changed and Grant (cue Brookside music again) was signed. So within weeks of Curran (cue sommat by Simply Red) signing he was no longer required by Coleman (cue sommat by the Fun Lovin Criminals) and hence his lack of game time (cue Boredom by the Buzzcocks). I only remember him playing against Bury (cue I’m a Loser Baby by Beck) in the JPT (cue Paint it Black by the Stones) and he was crap (cue anything by Coldplay) and got sent off (cue Bye Bye Bad Man by the Stone Roses). Excuse the musical slant on this. |
Now that the wine gum thread has died my prediction is several pages of musical innuendo cant think of anything off top of my head so you can leave your hat on. [Post edited 30 Apr 2020 9:20]
