In Dale's 1986/87 Great Escape season, we played Lincoln on the Saturday 14th March, gaining a 1-1 draw.
We would have won, but Lyndon Simmonds had a late penalty saved.
The following Saturday, we took on a Peterborough side who arrived on a seven-match winning run.
In what became a famous game, Dale won 3-2.
OK, so Lincoln this time is on 13th March, the game in 1987 was at home and I might be losing my marbles, but we need to clutch at any straws we can at the moment and mine are statistical!

In a perverse sort of way I want to do it. Much as a curious part of me is wondering whether we can beat (by being worse than) our worst ever home record.
It just might act as a catalyst to effect change. After Wednesday's revelation, the only other could be if we are bottom of L2 by Christmas. Unless BBM gets another under the table extension this summer until summer 2023?

How many games in hand did we have and how many points did we pick up from them?
It's impossible to make a comparison to back then, James, as we were only fighting to avoid bottom place, rather than the bottom four.
However, when we played Lincoln on this weekend in 1987, we were bottom of the league, four points behind Torquay with two games in hand on them.
Another problem in making comparisons is that they weren't as strict about all fixtures being completed by the final day, so there was a real spread in the amount of games completed.
We had played 28 games, but Tranmere, in 15th place, had played 34.

We seem to have a bit of an history of playing Lincoln whilst bottom of the table
One of my earliest "pleasant surprise" results was when we beat Lincoln 0-2 (at their place, obvs.) in January 1967. We were bottom, they were next to bottom and we replaced them

So what has happened over the past month or so that has stopped Dale scoring goals? It wasn't that long ago when they was banging them in left right and centre,I'm aware that they was also letting in the same amount of goals but Dale was still scoring wasn't they

Experiencing severe constipation in the box area. Your laxative session the other night though seems to have alleviated our problem at least temporarily?

Well the same points return, albeit the other way round in terms of where the points came from.
And almost the 3-2 Peterborough scoreline. Talking of similarities, I think all of us on here remember Walsall 3-3 in March 2012. The last relegation season from league 1. Similar to last Saturday 0-2 at ht, storming comeback to lead 3-2 (with an even later goal). Basically we had to defend a lead for 10 seconds as all Walsall had time to do was kick off and launch a long ball towards our area - I remember Coleman saying it was the lowest he'd felt after a game of football and most of the Dale fans felt the same. We all knew we were down after that. A bit different to the current situation where we still have hope and this team has far more quality - I think.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
