Ok, so we arent doing as well as most of us thought we would.
However, we all know we should have had a new striker in during the last window, but didnt and this appears it might have been a mistake.
If form continues the way it is, Stoke etc will beat us, and we will be almost where we were last season......ergo no real improvement, and a squad thats fat, old, lazy, or comtractually obliged to play every game.
However, next season will need more players, as some will be leaving us, so who do you want to pick those players and next seasons formations?
So, do we keep Warburton (Stick) or do we get rid (twist)
But in determining whether to stick or twist, I feel there is one aspect which is being overlooked, namely MW's relative inexperience as a manager (stress the "relative").
We all accept that when it comes to players, you have to give youngsters tiime to learn their trade, and so will be patient when eg they go througfh a tough period of games after making their breakthrough into senior football. "They'll come good again with a bit more experience", is the common refrain.
But we rarely allow managers time to learn their job, instead wielding the axe the minute things go tits up. Yet on the basis that there is nothing about football management that cant be learned by studying the career of Sir Alex Ferguson, even a brief scan of his career is illustrative..
That is, when he took over at MU, he was 45 and had already managed 650-odd games over 12 years with enormous distinction. He inherited a decent team (Robson, Whiteside, McGrath etc) and was given decent money to spend. Yet it still took 6 [SIX] full seasons before he won his first league title, a period during whicih he had been on thin ice a couple of times. (He also had over 300 senior games under his belt as a player, btw)
How does this relate to MW? Well for all that he's 59 etc and seems to have been around a long time, he's still "only" managed fewer than 350 games over 8 and a bit years, and that without ever having had a career in the professional game as a player.
Compare that eg to his opposite number in the Posh dugout the other week, Grant McCann. McCann is still only 41 (just), but has already managed over 300 games to date. And this after he started out as a trainee at the famous, if vastly overrated, West Ham Academy 24 years ago, before going on to play over 500 senior games at 7 different clubs, plus 39 international caps. How many managers, good and bad, did he have to learn from during that time, before he first had to pick a team himself?
Meaning that in deciding MW's fate, the question should surely be: "Has he reached his sell-by date as a manager,, so that it's time to put him out to grass, while he's still able to enjoy a long semi-retirement in TV and Radio studios up and down the land?"
Or has he still got the energy, drive and determination, plus the wisdom of age, "to learn from this and go again", to borrow one of his favourite sayings?
I personally suspect it may be the former, but in the absence of any obvious replacement, I feel he has earned the right to be given a good run at it from the beginning of next season, then take another look if it's not working out by the run-up to Xmas.

Warburton has a brain, understands the club's strategy (which he will have contributed to), is more articulate than most managers, seems to be as honest as anyone can be in that job and is committed. Most of the managers that we know about do not measure up well against those criteria.

Warburton has been a breath of fresh air. By and large, we’ve played better football, on a fraction of the budget, than any of his predecessors. He’s a decent human being, in the crosshairs because of raised expectations brought about by the fantastic job he’s done.
Be careful what you wish for.
He’s in the crosshairs because he’s lost 6 out of the last 7 games. Any manager would be under scrutiny with that horrible stat. Let’s hope he can turn it around starting at Preston. Right now I’d celebrate a draw like we’d won the CL.

Supported since 65 and been lucky to see the greats there, and the up sides / downsides...... upsides for me any time, however, realism exists too, and we must face the fact that we are just not good enough this season, which is erking enough as we had such a bloody good chance, and have 'dropped the ball'.
Why we have gone off the boil so badly, is open to speculation...... fans? players? covid, Warbs? evil Les? a combination of all of them.......
However after todays pre match injury i'm firmly in the 'black cat' corner!
I really think the window did for us. Getting Hendrick when really didn't need him and then picking him ahead of Amos, Dozzell and Ball upset the team morale.

Those are all Warburton decisions, plus wanting a small squad and not trying any of the U23s. It’s why a couple of key player injuries have left us where we are now.

I sway one way and then the other week after week, I'm not even sure If the club want to keep him.
When we were third in the league It was Warburton that got us there, now we're no longer third in the league but a disappointing tenth with a poor GD that's Warburton that got us there too.
The loss of our goalkeeper during the warm up today was a big blow and as the Manager you'd have to stand there and think what the hell is gonna happen next, we've put in some pretty mediocre performances lately and our league position Is plain and simple where we deserve to be.
I really couldn't handle another Manager coming in, Warburton has been here long enough to know how we do things and deep down I think it'll be a mistake If he leaves at the end of the season, he's shown us what he can do, why can't he do It again?

Stick all the way. What happens if we get a new manager in. Do we suddenly become a winning club, or do we have a terrible run from the off, then sack the new manager after a few months and go squarely back to square one.
Too many what ifs with a new manager. Give Warburton another deal. It's clear we need more pace and energy, give him the chance to clear out then build a youthful squad. Not anymore 30 plus somethings on loan. Them players are usually available for loan for a reason.

a lot of managers have gone for less, we want stability for many fans that is key, stay clear of the drop zone, bring thru the odd youngster but can we win the odd derby game ffs!? we had a cup run and top 6 near all the 1st half of this season on a tight budget....not bad.

Dose of realism kicked in the last 2 months. Getting carried away with where we sat in the league, but overall Warburton has improved and stabilised the footballing side of things and should be retained. We all know the weaknesses, our strikers cannot score, we lack pace through midfield and able to counter attack quickly enough. All this not helped through injuries to all our keepers, especially Dieng. I am not sure who we would replace Warbs with as we are still a work in progress. We are a Championship side, our history of the last 50 to 60 years is predominantly at this level. I like the way the club is going, the new training centre investment, developing the youth set up, trying to find players at a lower level they can develop and sell on to hopefully build a team that can spark a promotion push or get as near to the play offs as possible. The rinse and repeat cycle is our model and we need to feel comfortable with it and it was probably always thus at QPR. We are a unique club and need to play on this, a place where talent is developed, play good football and with a bit of luck and sensible investment we will get promoted.

When you say it was his choice, to be clear the smaller squad allows you to get in better quality. If you want a squad with 10 more players in then you have to spread your budget further, so possibly no Field, Johansen, Austin, Gray. The alternative would have been more less experienced, lower quality players, so our form may have not dipped but we'd have probably not been in contention anyway.

I think we’re agreed that given all the variables we know about, QPR were punching above our weight until February. We didn’t have a good TW; we’ve had a lot of injuries; and maybe we’ve been found out a bit. We’ve also had no striker(s): Dykes is brittle; if Austin were a horse he’d be turn d into glue by now, and Gray has been disappointing. But more challenging is the financial yoke we have and continue to operate under.
Now unless there are things happen behind the scenes that we don’t know about, Warbs has done well given the many obstacles placed before him and like many here, I’d be loathe to ditch him now.
Given another pre-season of player turnover looms, as long as he has the appetite and dressing room, he stays for me.
However if I could make one request to Warbs, it would be to give our youth players a run out. In theory the pressure is off, now is the time to blood some lads to see what they’ve got because I suspect they’ve got something many of the first team squad haven’t: fresh legs for next season!

Definitely stick if all ok behind the scenes. Having issues with both Keepers and Strikers is a killer. If we keep the right players, get everyone fit and buy/loan well, then Warbs will do well..we need to start next season with the belief that we have a better squad than where we started last season..
