So it's fans doing it then? I read your post differently.

I may not frequent the bars, but I do frequent the games and I haven't heard anyone say anything like that. They must be the other fifth.

They must be the other fifth then who you dont know. We both know a lifelong fan who chooses not to go to some games though because of the manager, so you do know at least one of the fifth. A quick questions. Do you expect us to beat Spennymoor and do you expect us to finish in the play offs looking at the league table?

Next you'll be saying there's no such thing as the commentators curse

There isn't.

For every 'commentator's curse', there will be a hundred times when it doesn't exist.

Managers throughout the pyramid, including some good ones, cite external factors for performances not being as hoped regardless of the results. It seems like any opportunity to criticise is taken. 10 pages combined for the threads for the Boston and Maidenhead games similar number combined for the 4 wins in a row.

As it ever was James, the predicability of it all has long ceased to be noteworthy. Of course, those of who contribute more to point out factual realities as well as opinion add to the page counts, a lot of it repetitive so I certainly am aware of when I do it!

It’s respecting the right that people feel how they do about the team and manager, even if it dismisses some of what has actually happened in favour of concentrating on other aspects that support or justify a position.

The one thing that I often can’t ignore is when something is simply wrong and proven to be so. It’s also frustrating when that’s ignored after evidence is provided. All good debates consist of an acknowledgement of being wrong and accepting the opinions and feelings of others.

No, don’t ask for examples. Because it’d take too long and there’s a game to go to tonight where we will hopefully see another in the “enjoyed that” column that is edging ahead of the “well, that was rubbish” figure this season. Much like most of the past 40 odd years.

It's a football forum, a sounding board. Facts are great but they don't always tell the story or determine the final outcome...possession stats are a good example of that. Football debate is all about opinions, without opinions there is no debate. Some people are more easily pleased than others and that's what we have here i think. There's nothing wrong with any of that. Agreement is great but not for the sake of it, we dont want any of that.

Also need to differentiate between facts and stats

Our stats look pretty decent, on paper (or screen) but if that's all football was about there'd be no-one watching it. Making it more about stats than the reason why the game was invented in the first place is one of the things that's wrong with the game

It'd be a fact if we lifted a trophy

it'd be a fact if we made it back into the EFL

JM could point to those things at the end of the season, or not; until then, we just have a significant number of fans who're so pissed off they end up booing, which isn't what they're thinking about when going through the turnstile. That emotion then gets translated into words on here

That’s what I was saying, opinions and debate are great but the point I was specifically made was when an opinion contains a totally incorrect factual occurrence, that when this is pointed out it is subsequently ignored.

Agreed on that one too. He could point to the home record as being so much better and amongst the best in the division. But in reality we haven’t played well in quite a few of those games.

On the flip side, and where any detractors would be wrong, is that it’s impossible to claim that we’ve not played well and seen some decent games at Spotland this season. A percentage that’s much more than recent years and on a par with what Dale fans normally will have witnessed if they’ve been watching a long time.

On the booing, and I genuinely don’t know as I wasn’t there after the whistle went against Barnet, apart from that when have there been a significant amount of fans booing? There’s been a significant amount applauding them off recently too!

And I only know that because of the Twitter stuff because I sod off at full time!

That's stats for you! Doesn't mean people only post negatively after a bad performance but never positively after a win (bar one or two exceptions)

More that after a good performance most are in agreement thereby not provoking as great a debate.

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

There are some who sit on forums specifically looking to trip posters up though, they offer very little opinion themselves but are like a bad rash when there's a point to prove. Normally petty things like a spelling mistake. They will never make a mistake because they never post their opinions.

Well there aren’t many on here who haven’t said how they feel and their opinions on this season. As James pointed out though, there’s far more reaction to a defeat/bad result than a good win. Though that’s often been the case with football fans.

The biggest thing for me this season is the frustration of not making the most of what we have. It’s a total guess but I’d wager many of us feel like that. The manager has been able to control that and he’s fallen short in quite a few aspects as well as progressing in others.
