who's favourite for promotion. 20:29 - May 6 with 13151 views | diplodocus | If Southend are to go up, they will need to win 3 times away (including Wembley). same for Halifax. we will need to win 2 times away, and same for Lun (atics). York and FG will only need to win once away for promo... So who is the smart money on??

who's favourite for promotion. on 13:07 - May 15 by Yorkshire_Dale | No, it was not the same Oldham at all......completely bossed the game from start to finish. Stumbling into the play-offs, well maybe, but they are certainly a match for any team. |
Nobody said they wouldn’t be, we haven’t beaten them this season. Even so, our manager, or any other for that matter, doesn’t need to be looking at them for how to play. Any manager would want to start a game and be three up within quarter of an hour. I’d want ours to play to our strengths and play like we did against Hartlepool. Not try and replicate Oldham when they play a totally different way to us. [Post edited 15 May 13:52]

Not too dissimilar to us then, given we finished above them after 46 games.

Felt sorry for their fans who travelled en-masse and game was over very early, but still had to sit there in hope of some type of turnaround.

Winners mentality = focus on the good performances rather than a goalless first half.

...a goalless first half? That performance stunk the stadium out. You condone it if you want, we can't afford to deliberately play a half of football like that tonight..and it was deliberate. The crowd responded accordingly.

The first half was epitomised by a post from someone who very rarely posts during the course of games, let alone halfway through Those with a winning mentality know you don't start games like that Can't see that happening tonight...

The tempo of our play dictates our performance. That sounds simplistic but it's been obvious all season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
who's favourite for promotion. on 16:38 - May 15 with 1923 views | Bainesy15 | My worry is how Southend turn up. If they come not to lose, I think we'll lose - we can't break teams down. If they come to win, I think we'll win.

Agreed. And that’s why factors like the opposition tactics, our own deficiencies as a team in any given moment and individual performances have been the biggest factor when we haven’t played well. Despite everything, there’s little dispute the club now has a winning mentality. The league table illustrates that. Good performances and bad will always come and go.

How have I condoned it? Never have. Always said how bad it was. The score, despite everything, was 0-0. Anything else is pure opinion and guesswork.

Do you still believe your comment in para 2.....Agree the league table suggests we do win many matches but when it comes to the crucial "WINNER" takes all games we are left wanting (and we know the 3 games in question).......4th in National League this season means we have won fa.

Yes because the team and the fans are turning up expecting to win games. That’s why it was caveated with the use of the word “club”. In recent seasons that simply hasn’t been the case. The first paragraph provides the issues that should also be considered, ones which could impact the chances of winning - our own deficiencies including the tactical limitations I’ve pointed out all season long. On expecting to win games, to go up we may require a season where we know we’re going to win them. There’s a post about that elsewhere.
