A solid performance today against WBA today.

Looked really good today going forward although WBA looked very slow and shaky at the back.

Some really good performances today, Nardi has come in for some deserved stick of late but no complaints about his performance today including a fine double save in the second half. I did think hear we go when they equalised but FairPlay to Kone for showing some starting setting up Burrell second.

MOM today was Madsen… tackling winning headers and confident on the ball.

5 wins from safety now roll on Birmingham

It's bizarre isn't it, after the doom and gloom post-Norwich (myself included) we have won 3 out of the last 4.

QPR innit.

We go on runs, either dreadful or good. The secret as a fan is not to get carried away either way.

I spose the secret for the manager is to to be able to yank the side out of nosedives, while sustaining the soars for as long as possible.

I don’t think 43 points is keeping anyone up this season!!

Be nice to bag a few more wins over the Christmas period and be nestled in the pack as we move into January.
Might attract a calibre of player in the window a couple of notches above those who you’d get if at the other end.

Really pleased with that second half today

Not going up and not going down and that is absolutely fine for me for this season. Another enjoyable Champ game that could have had any result today and we came out on top.

Kone stepped back up after some dodgy form and he, Burrell, Nardi, RND and Madsen had good games.

Varane really hit and miss as was Dunne.

JCS blowing out of his 'arris after 70, but effortless at times today.

The worries were Dunne and Saito, who has frankly cratered since he got his Japan cap.

Overall a good day though...

Can we go out yet?

Kones effort to battle past his defender on the sideline for the third goal was the type of fight you want from your players. He attacks the goal from a tight angle when to my mind the right option was a pass to Ruman who was in space with a better look at goal. Not bagging him though just an observation. I thought he was one of our best yesterday and I love the combo work of our strikers

It wont stop the next bout of hysterical criticism from lots of posters next game we lose. People should reflect more before deciding Nardi, Madsen, Varane, Smyth Kone etc are “sh*t” “a waste of space” and “should be shipped out immediately”. They are young men learning their trade whilst generally trying their best. They are not Boswinga or Wright Philips lazy players who don't care.
Criticism is fine , but as supporters we should keep a sense of perspective.

Getting the negatives out of the way, I thought the start of the second half was slow and we went too deep. Maybe losing Chair had something to do with it, but the players looked a bit cold and disjointed. And after West Brom scored the whole ground was very quiet for a good 5-10 mins. Understandable nervousness of course but was strange to hear the blocks that normally do such a good job of making the noise go so quiet.

But what a difference having those two up front makes. An actual successful press that leads to a goal - how refreshing is that?

I think it's time to get back to that Burrell-Kone combo whenever possible, and build the team around that, rather than trying to juggle things. Kone needs to be playing.

It might have been me but I found much of the game unusually flat, even though both sides seemed to work hard. WBA were rather ordinary but at least we were able to make things happen, and in the end deserved the win.

I'm pleased Kone played well and that his contribution has been acknowledged. He still needs a goal though. I can't think he's content to play provider for Burrell.

Burrell's continuing scoring streak is remarkable. Can he continue and perhaps even improve? We'll want to think so and I don't see why not. A little better ball control would reap further rewards for the lad.

From the vantage point of my sofa it looked a fairly low quality game with sloppy errors from both teams, perhaps hindered by the weather, with the difference being strikers - but unlike seasons past it was our strikers that tipped it in our favour.

There were 15 minutes or so after Burrell missed the open goal after doing the hard part that we looked really disjointed, but WBA didn't capitalize.

Really pleased to have come out on top in that sort of game, like I say, having a striker that knows where to be and in confident form makes a massive difference at this level, and Kone roughing up defenders was a joy to watch.

Madsen I thought looked great again, he's added some grit and physicality and was getting stuck in from the start. The little shoves and niggles are clearly something he's learned since joining the championship, and for me he's the most intelligent passer in the team. I saw the stats that Brian posted on him which apparently aren't great - but I wonder if his passing stats take a hit because he's looking for the killer ball more often than other players? The passes that he does complete tend to be incisive and get play moving.

Good points about Madsen, who I also thought played well. To my eyes, he's playing further back this season as a deep-lying playmaker and is clearly the one expected to start passages of play. I think it's a role he's growing into, and doing so pretty well.

I was listening to Soldiers of the Queen on the radio just now and thought the last verse applicable

When they say we always won
And when they ask us how it's done
We proudly point to every one
Of the soldiers of Queen's Park Rangers.

I thank you.

Let's be honest the first half was jaw-droppingly poor from both teams.

Can only beat what's put in front of you, however. Two home wins in a row and six goals certainly not to be sniffed at with our recent home record.

Birmingham will be a much stiffer test.

First and foremost it was important to bounce back after the Norwich shambles and we did that so well done boys.

Although the first 40 minutes were drab it was important to stay concentrated as the first goal would be so important and Madsen delivered the quality cross for Varane to head home. More of that please Jonathan you should be getting at least 8 goals a season.

Kone had a great second half and when we got the second we looked dare I say it comfortable but this is QPR and I"m sure I wasn't the only one who thought "Here we go again" when WBA scored. Fantastic header from them by the way.

However our front 2 are forming a strong partnership and wonderful to see them combine for the match winning third.

Can we now back that up on Tuesday night, I'm feeling quite confident which is always a bad sign

On that basis, presumably every strenuous 3-day week from here on in somehow 'won't count'. Even though, to his credit, JS says we need to be better and show more ambition to 'con-feerm' our credentials.

There have been only two matches so far this season in the entire Championship schedule where a team has played away on Wednesday and Saturday and where the opposition on Saturday had a days extra rest by playing the previous Tuesday. QPR have been the away team with a days less rest on both those occasions. No other team has had to face that kind of scheduling. If we’d been away at Millwall/Oxford/Watford or Charlton it would have had less impact due to the short distances involved. We’ve done Swansea/Derby and then Blackburn/Norwich. Both fairly significant road trips.

Getting back to the training ground at 4am on Thursday to have an ice bath and then getting to bed around 6am before a 40 minute training session the following day and travelling to Norwich straight afterwards is not great preparation physically, let alone the amount of tactical coaching you can do in that time. Both Derby and Norwich would have had, in effect, 2 extra days to prepare against us. A significant advantage.

Clubs take sleep patterns of players seriously as it can be a major factor in performance.

I’m happy to discount the Norwich and Derby games when it comes to assessing our form.

I don't think anyone, anyone, thinks it wasn't a factor, Beckenham.

But we also have to admit at the same time that we didn't tire in the Norwich game, if we tired as the game went on I think that would be perfectly understandable - but we were lazy and disinterested form the off. That's not acceptable. I don't think we get a free pass for that.

I also don't think that Stéphan gets a free pass for the team selection. It was optimistic at best.

I really, really want to win this one as I work with the most blinkered City fan in the world. Didn’t win?

We need to buy a new striker.

You score four most weeks.

Not away we don’t (sorry)!

So you need a new away striker?

Yes.

And so it goes on every week.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Ah Brian, that's harsh. He gets a pass from me for six out of nine points that week, though, and he should get a pass from all for winning the next one after Norwich at home. It's massive for the mentality. It's a big step-change for QPR (hopefully), bouncing back and not consolidating another losing run.

We can't navel-gaze like this worrying about a defeat in a run of wins. You could say that they looked lazy and disinterested because they *were* knackered - even sitting on a coach not playing from London to Blackburn to London to Norwich in four days is knackering.

There are 46 games. We will drop loads of points, like everyone, but I'm sure JS is learning every game, you can see it. We just need to keep looking forward.

There are many versions of Championship QPR that would've lost or drawn to WBA at best after the Norwich game. There's fight in this squad. Brum and Boro will be big tests, though.

Fair enough, TK1. We see this one slightly differently.

As I said, I see that there are factors in mitigation but we can't just pretend the bad days didn't happen and ignore the other less understandable factors.

My view of that was that Kone went for a far post shot that would either creep in or what it eventually achieved, a rebound for a tap in. Cannot blame him for trying to end his goal drought.

Overall, it was a good 2nd half, and agree with those who credit Nardi, RND, Madsen and Burrell for their performances.

In his defence , Dunne is playing with an injury, so can be excused for this not being his usual standard.

As for the ref, both sets of fans were frustrated by his incompetence, his usual standard!
How did he only add 7 minutes when the stoppage for the injured fan was a minimum 6 minutes (I noted the time was 51 minutes when Nardi signalled for the physios and the game had been stopped for about a minute and didn't restart until just before the 57th). Add in all the substitutions and goal celebrations it should have been closer to 10 or 11.

One defeat in five, four points away from home in that run including a hard fought clean sheet at free-scoring parachute form team Sheffield United, two home wins in which we've scored three goals...

Gotta enjoy the purple patches when they occur. Plenty of time for self-flagellation round the corner (maybe after the next two difficult matches).

I agree that Stephan's team selection (starting with the same team) didn't help. He should have rotated the team a bit.

West Brom Reflection on 14:04 - Dec 7 with 498 viewsdaveB

I thought first half was really dull, West Brom spent most of it wanting the game to be stopped and was quite funny that we scored in the injury time they created.

Second half was a really good end to end game, we were the better side but at points in that second half West Brom were right in the game to win it let alone draw it but we kept going. I loved our intent to keep trying to score and we were rewarded with that.

Love seeing QPR fan Chris Mepham again get caught playing out from the back and conceding, he seems to do that everytime we play against them although in reality it's probably only once before.

Nardi had an excellent game great credit to him and thought Varane got better as the game wore on after a pretty poor start

This team will go on and lose 2 or 3 in a row again but there is real progress so far this season which we shouldn't forget during the bad periods.
