I think it's time the lad started a few games in his natural midfield position.

Morgan deserves more of a look-in now, rest Varane for a bit.

Was a bit harsh on him after Norwich game. Nice little cameo today up front .

Agree, in the absence of Chair I'd like to see Morgan start in that attacking midfield role in front of the two CDMs,

Thought he was very good in that role last year before he ran out of gas.

It wasn't gas he ran out of, it was support from management.

No way can we have Madsen and Morgan in CM. Need some steel in the whether it's Varane's questionable variety or that of Field or Hayden

Shit but local

Agree with this, in a midfield 2 you need a proper ball winner and it seems like Varane is getting overlooked recently for his defensive qualities. Would love Morgan to get more minutes in midfield but seemingly the only way that would happen would be for Madsen or if we played with 3 CMs

I agree wholeheartedly, hasn't been often in recent years we've had an England youth international on the books, he needs the gametime. Just unfortunate he's competing with arguably the POTS so far.

Perhaps with the potential long term Burrell injury and Frey leaving we see some fluidity in the system with an extra midfielder, or used as a pressing forward like we saw today (he was actually used like this in pre season also)

I agree totally. Use him or lose him.

Horrible having injuries to players, but perhaps now Kolli and Morgan will get a decent run. Wednesday were poor today and even though kolli wasn’t great, 2 goals would be a good confidence booster for him

He is another trier.

Am not sure myself whether centre defensive midfield will be where he ends up. Could be in a more advanced position.

There is definitely a space up for grabs in this team and the very fact he has applied himself as best he can, wherever he has been instructed to play.

Am hopeful Harvey Vale will also develop similarly to Morgan. And again, where he could be used is also very variable.

Madsen can now play DM, you don’t need to be an old style DM these days.

Agree again. Has a good football brain. Passes the ball forward quickly and with crisp intent.

Yes he makes mistake but he’s a teenager. He’s needs game time and to bulk up.

Will be a good player.

Morgan’s a nice prospect, has some talent, and can make things happen. The problem is his pass completion rate. Plenty of sub appearances and few starts seems about perfect until he becomes more reliable.

What I like is he tries to play forward and play ambitious passes so his pass completion rate may be lower because he doesn't always take the safe, easy option and play backwards.

Quite enjoyed his cameo as a target man. Was that an assist with his first touch?

Yeah, but he also misplaces a lot of passes.

Probably b'cos he tries to open teams up by playing 20 & 30 yards passes in behind,

We needed this against Norwich as we won't be playing a team of U21s like Wednesday again this season,

If we are to get the best out of Saito, Poku, Dembele, Burrell and increase their value to sell-on, we need an ambitious passer in the middle of the pitch to give them passes to run on to,

Our current 4-4-2 Starting XI is a 12th to 16th placed team at best.

👍🏻
What would be really helpful also would be data weighting on passing quality, what did a particular pass actually produce, what was the outcome?

Very true, Kensal.

I have to say that even though I really like Morgan's talent I'm pleasantly surprised at his passing stats being so high, but I might have been skewed by a few notable passes that went awry and lead to danger e.g. Cov away and a similar one at home to Norwich (the dangers of outcome bias).

Lies damn lies and etc.

Thanks Brian. My eyes must be wrong.

I thought he was great when he came in the team last season, and then just became far far too loose with the ball as that initial adrenaline wore off. I confess my prejudice is based more on his appearances last season than his limited work this...

Besides the passing, I like his ambition, that he has a bit of needle, and that he can make things happen.

Nail on head in that last sentence....that he can (or least tries to) make things happen,

That's exactly what he did when he came on against Norwich, others seem to settle for a 0-1 defeat, Morgan didn't.

Morgan has what you can't coach into a player, desire & a will to win.

Not quick over 5 yards which is why he was likely released from Spurs, but when he gets balance right in playing high risk defence splitting passes or playing safe, he could be the man we need.
