| We will need 3 goals on Saturday 08:50 - Apr 21 with 24691 views | dingdangblue | Looking at York's only 2 away defeats this season both Boreham Wood and Gateshead scored 3. Also at Barnsley in the FA Cup who needed 3 goals to beat them. The last time they failed to score was at home to Solihull back in September 2025. The only other game they failed to score this season was at Southend 0-0 back in August 2025. Any thoughts of 1 or 2 goals and seeing the game out will end in tears. | |

| We will need 3 goals on Saturday on 10:44 - Apr 22 by beat_the_bishop | I agree. But, 100% sure it will be the same pedestrian, recycle recycle ethos. Jim has a brand, and recognition for his brand is as important to him as results. York will be expecting the above, because it’s all we know. So, coming out of the traps with a few tasty challenges (firm but fair) will let them know it’s on and it’s going to be hard. Interesting York aren a fan of the ball into the box. Ironically neither are we. Ebanks is the key this weekend. He needs to step up and show his experience over Stones. He got bullied last time out and no doubt that will be on his mind. Moving the ball and off the ball movement is imperative. One reason for Mani D not being in the goals as much is the service hasn’t been there and his movement has been far more static (carrying a knock some say?). One thing Hendo gives is intelligent movement, he just appears everywhere. And he’s our version of Ollie Pearce. I pray we have practice and confirmed who would take a penalty if we are fortunate enough to get one too. We’ve been woeful at them. We can do it. Hopefully Done and Ginger Jase can rev them up too. |
.....and shoot when the oppotunity arises, re-cycling and re-cycling gives defenders time to reset. Have a 'pop' and create a bit of confusion. Saturday's late late winner for instance.
| We will need 3 goals on Saturday on 14:17 - Apr 22 with 2903 views | 49thseason | For me, we have to break the link between Banks and Pearce., I would be inclined to use Moss or Pritchard as a man to man marker on Banks and cut off his supply to the forwards. Pearce also seems to drift out wide quite a lot so our defence need to be communicating well if they are to avoid losing him. Equally Mani D has to be tying up their defence with movement and physicality, we can't afford not to be 100% "at it" for 90+ minutes, no wandering, no " breathers" , no slipping in and out of the game, 100% concentration...Lets give them all the headaches and worries... | | | |
| We will need 3 goals on Saturday on 14:26 - Apr 22 with 2870 views | James1980 | I've not looked but I bet York's forum's and message boards are full of positive comments no digs at Maynard a belief that no matter how many goals we might score they are confident they will score. Come on we've done the double over Carlisle Forest Green and Borehamwood we have 105 points for a reason. We can effing well do this (not the same 'team' I know) but we took Man United to Penalties Newcastle and Spurs to a replay we have it in us to win this game and to put in a performance that will give us confidence for the future Up The Bleeping Dale. | |

Obviously they are all happy with Maynard! He's taken over this season, is top of the league on 107 points! If they lose against us and lose in the play offs again there will be plenty having their say!

I’ve not seen what James refers to, but he makes a good point about being totally behind a manager and team. As we’ve seen after any time we’ve dropped points, the reaction towards McNulty has been, from some, absolutely ridiculous when you consider the job he’s done over the last three years. This doesn’t mean anyone should be above criticism or critical analysis, but it’s gone beyond that at times. And those choosing to do it, know exactly that. We all know what will happen on Saturday should we fall short. And it’ll be the exact opposite of what will be required if we have to enter the playoffs.

The stats were posted about how much we shoot. It’s not an insignificant amount. Bit like the info posted around big games (and subsequently ignored), sometimes opinions aren’t necessarily based in fact. Having a sharp TAR and Gordon getting in more crosses would be a greater concern as others have said.

Is this a fans forum or a support network for Jim McNulty? Fans will post a honest assessment of how they viewed the York game and it might be different to your version. That doesn't mean that their version is incorrect. It's the right of every individual to post what they want within the guidelines. The fans posting their opinions wont be responsible if McNulty and the players pull up short this season neither, a ridiculous suggestion that in order to use the forum as a support platform for the manager. Vibes of North Korea that. This is a fans forum and most post on individual games so it will be love and hate dependent on results and performances, not over three years..Gateshead and Brackley being the best examples, from the sublime to the ridiculous in just a few days and everybody on this forum had their say on those two games, including you. So did those who travelled down to Brackley. If some think the forum is damaging to the manager and players because posters comment on performances and criticise then why not suggest to the mods that it should be closed down or maybe mods could contact individual posters and ask them if they'd mind leaving. I'm assuming a lot now also have private watsapp groups they also use. A sanitised forum, sounds great that. Most posters are never going to post what you want, we're all individuals and view the game differently. Why does it bother you if some fans aren't fully on board with the manager, there's nothing you can do about it and i doubt the manager cares much. He will know that he has the overwhelming support of most fans and those in the boardroom. McNulty's done great but i'm still not sure when it comes to these big games, that's not being unfair i don't think. Hopefully he'll put those doubts to bed by beating York or winning the home play off game. Veiled attacks/ comments in respect of what people post, or might post, isn't very good, you need to stop doing that because i suspect people will do it even more just to wind you up. Even worse they might keep mentioning Brackley and you don't want that. [Post edited 23 Apr 7:59]

The two things: a) posing questions around the strengths / weaknesses of the manager and b) having faith that "we can do this" are absolutely not mutually exclusive That should be self-evident [Post edited 23 Apr 1:55]

Whereas in Maynard's post match agaisnt Yeovil he was trying to downplay the occasion saying it's just any other game, we prepare exactly the same. An interesting contrast and let's see which approach works

We have only lost 6 games this season…a great achievement….but two of those were against bottom 4, relegated teams. Only lost one game against the top 4 (excluding ourselves of course). Let’s hope we have a champagne Saturday and that doesn’t come back to bite us. UTD

That will be because they are playing good football and their performance levels have stayed relatively consistent. They go out with one intention and that"s to pepper their opponents box and score as many goals as they can. Unlike us they haven't had to watch mainly poor performances for probably at least six weeks. If they had then the mood would have been different. It was when Gateshead beat them. They also have a manager who when interviewed leaves nobody in doubt that he believes and expects to win every game. He said this week ' We know how Rochdale play and we know how to beat them'. McNulty did the opposite and said ' We are playing a monster, a juggernaut'. God knows how our players feel listening to that, it screams inferiority complex straight away. I'd prefer our manager to mention that we have a fantastic home record , even better than Yorks. Nobody has won more points at home than us and because of that we're confident we can beat them. You mentioned belief, that comes from the manager at Football Clubs and Maynard has plenty of it and the fans respond accordingly. I think Jim's adopted what i call the sackcloth mentality which a lot of fans have at the club, he's been with us a long time now and being positive and bullish isn't encouraged, we know our place, well some do. It drove Keith Hill mad, he replaced it with the 'no fear ' mantra and look what happened. So comparing Yorks forum with ours is a pointless excercise James, i'm assuming you did that all on your own for some reason. York have a manager and a fan base with a different mentality than us and their performances haven't dropped through the roof like ours. The fact we haven't already won this league is down to us, not York. Had we kept our performance levels consistent no amount of juggernauts amd monsters would have saved them from finishing runners up. So McNulty's hyperbole in respect of our opponents on Saturday means nothing. If it's a deflection tactic to use as a excuse to lose a league that we should have already won then it hasn't worked. If we do lose the league it will be because of our form since the Halifax game and a lack of ruthlessness when we've had the chance to extend the pointd total. There may well be valid reasons for that but tiredness isn't unique to us and neither are injuries. There's no such thing as monsters though and if the players turn up with the right approach and belief i have no doubt we will beat York on Saturday . We'll know within the first ten minutes if it's game on or not. Some things stay with you in football and that first half display against Spennymoor is one of them, under no circumstances can we go through something like that again. That was a crime against football in a massive game for the club and It's why doubts linger in many fans minds in respect of the manager when these type of games come around. We might lose the game against York but if we do let's see a performance that was worthy of the occassion, that's not too much to ask is it? A performance that will give us confidence going into the play off game. I've had a feeling all season we are going up and i still do, if we lose against York i think we'll win the Play Offs. If i was a footballer or a manager it would give me greater determination in the Play off games to get the job done rather than blow another chance. [Post edited 23 Apr 7:55]

There's nothing you can do to alter peoples opinions though and fans forums are where football fans come to sound off, ours is a kids nursery when compared to most clubs. When i post about a game i've watched i give my honest opinion and it varies wildly from one game to the next which you would expect. I don't consider being kind to the manager or the players because of the performance in the previous game or over a three year period. That never crosses my mind, I'm commenting on that specific game. If a player or the manager has a shocker why should i ignore it? Bentley, BBM ,Coleman, Parkin, Hill etc were all commented on in respect of performances, good or bad. Why should McNulty be treated any differently and why does it cause you so much angst when he receives deserved criticism? It was even suggested that the Brackley game was no different than the defeat against York on here not long ago, spectacularly missing the point and having a go at posters in an attempt to support the manager. That's how daft it's got. A insult to peoples intellligence in an attempt to get them to fall into line...some are daft enough to do it though. In all honesty he hasn't received much because grief because he's done great for most of the season and hopefully the best is yet to come. The main characters in all of this are the players, they are the stars of the show and why we pay to go and watch football. The players and manager have had great support and they deserve it, i haven't seen anybody on the forum constantly having a go at the manager but i've seen opinions vary dependent of performances, team selection, substitutions, tactics, inteeviews. The sort of stuff you would expect to see on every fans forum. It wont change and nor should it.

Keep posting TS It appears others have only tired emojis in response, and determined fans such as yourself posting analyses which go against the mindless grain of "turn up, clap, go home, repeat" would mean the end of this forum

There's a saying about people using the same vessel to urinate in, i suspect they're all sharing. In fact i know they are 🤣 It doesn't bother me what they think to be honest, i've never been a nodding dog and i don't jump to anybody's tune, never have. [Post edited 23 Apr 8:50]

| We will need 3 goals on Saturday on 07:41 - Apr 23 by TalkingSutty | That will be because they are playing good football and their performance levels have stayed relatively consistent.

In the end the comments of the managers in the media are meaningless. I think you'd be mad to say York haven't been favourites for the league since day one and they have spent huge money in an attempt to get out of the division. If Jim wants to play up to the underdog role then so be it, he's probably trying to take the pressure off the players who have clearly been feeling it for the past couple of months.

I understand that but his comments will serve to further boost Yorks belief i think and i dont see how they could boost the confidence of our own players, especially if their confidence is already fragile. I sometimes think i must be on a different page to everybody because i would expect our manager to say something like this on the cusp of our biggest ever game. 'We have the best home record in this league, we've won more points at home than anybody else and that includes York. Because of that i have full belief in my own players and know they are more than capable of winning this league. We fully respect York but also feel that we should have really already won the league if we're being honest. That disappointment will fuel us on Saturday to get the job done and York are going to have to play well to beat us'. I know York were favourites to win the league but the fact we haven't already won it is down to us and not York. We put ourselves in a great position to do that not long ago, nobody can deny that. Only our poor form has stopped it from happening. We can't keep coming to the decisive games and then start looking for excuses to lose or bulling up our opponents. Will we have to go through all that again if we have the Play Off game and ignore the fact that we finished miles in front of our opponent? Always looking for a excuse to lose. We are good enough to beat York, they haven't been great away from home lately. [Post edited 23 Apr 9:59]

I'm pretty sure he has always caveated that we are good enough to win but I may be misremembering. I suspect he will be saying exactly the sort of thing you outline below but to the players which, ultimately, is all that matters.

Yes TS. Their last 6 away they've lost 2 and won 3 by 1-0. Certainly not the greatest away form. We have nothing to fear (but I still think we'll need 3 goals). Tamworth 0 York 1 Boston 0 York 1 Gateshead 3 York 1 Aldershot 0 York 3 Boreham Wood 3 York 2 Morecambe 0 York 1

It’s not though is it? Fans are equally as important and getting the fans up for it as much as the players is what a leader and manager should be doing. Head coach vs Manager conversation. He’s got a plan. He will be in the detail and the players will be to. I think the inferiority complex is just this town in nutshell. It worked in league one in terms of punching about or weight but this is different. I as a fan want to hear my manager tell me that we are going to win. It’s not a free hit and anything other than a win is unthinkable. Everyone is different and ultimately words mean nothing, it’s the actions that count. But they can set the scene with those words…

I expect a more than usual physical battle ,,,..wouldnt be suprised to see much rolling around subsequent bookings and a sending off. The winner will be the team that can keep their heads whilst all around are losing theirs.
