What struck me over the last few games is how we seem to have abandoned any form of passing game, We used to complain about "tippy-tappy" play and but Jim justified it by claiming it provided "control".
Now we seem content to belt the ball upfield out of defence, usually bypassing midfield altogether, and wasting both Manni D`s and Rodney`s best features which is to play with the ball at their feet and turn opponents. I agree Rodney is not playing well, but a large part of that is due to the poor service he gets.
It also means East and Gilmour have too much to do covering the midfield ground, and have become ineffective. I think Jim`s solution to this is to play Moss as an extra midfielder, but this in turn means the flanks are devoid of attack on one side. Hannant could make a difference on the wing but seems to be encouraged to play a semi-defensive role. Remember Hayes?
Surely we must change tactics to play a more attacking system now we are down to cuptie football. There was no shame in yesterday playing a very good team with some excellent individual players, but not having a shot on goal in 90 minutes is crazy.

Yes this is a good point. I noticed it yesterday when the ball went long to Mani D - if he got a flick on there’s no one beyond him to get it. If he heads it back the midfield are too deep and no one can pick it up. The same happens if the defender gets it instead - none of our midfielders are there to pick up the loose ball and keep up the pressure. We are more than capable of beating any team in the play offs if we can sort out these issues and play to our strengths.

So, to confirm, are we ok to knock it around at the back now waiting for the right pass, or should we go long?
Or, as has been the case always, maybe playing the right ball at the right time is best.
For what it’s worth, I thought we should have looked to have got it down a bit more yesterday but there’s no argument that McNulty got the tactics spot on as it completely confused York. That it led to what should have been a winner was the ultimate vindication of it. That it wasn’t the winner rightly leads to debate ahead of the next game.
Moss is playing the same role as he did from a couple of months ago, it’s just when we play a more direct style his aerial ability makes him a better attacking option than when we get it down and pass it about. He’s almost ignored when we’re playing like that.
The East and Gilmour issue isn’t helped by them both not playing as well as they have. Although yes, the more direct style impacts that too. We looked so much better with Pettit there yesterday, he looks fresher and snappier in everything we do.

On a similar theme, we've scored in every home league game this season, for the first time ever in a season with 23 home fixtures.
We did it in 1926/27, but there were only 21 home games then.

Statistics can sometimes register with you or not but that one is worthy of mention. A first in the lifes of any Dale fans in attendance yesterday. That one has gone under the radar so thanks for highlighting it.

Also, Mani D is the first Dale player to score over 25 goals in a league season since Jimmy Wynn in 1938/39.
I don't think D_Alien was there, but his dad might have been!

I did the Likely Lads episode yesterday, as I could get DAZN availability until today, after being otherwise engaged yesterday. So having watched the game a couple of hours ago, I have made peace with the events of yesterday. Don’t get involved with competitive sport I you can’t accept defeat. York were better than us yesterday and didn’t loose any of the 3 encounters with us. They are deserved champions and a great advertisement for this league. As are we. After our first game in the NL (a home defeat to Ebbsfleet) I said on here that I thought I was going to enjoy this league. This season has surpassed that expectation by miles. 106 points, most wins of any team in the league , and boy the drama. But I’ve had enough now, time to say good bye. So lads now go and get your just desserts and get that promotion you have earned beyond question.

Not exactly sure when my dad was called up (navy) but he'd have been in his 20s so highly likely he saw us playing then. He'd have done a better job than our stewards if anyone had tried to invade the pitch

Men over 18 and under 41 had to register in 1939 and were called up according to age with men 20-22 being first to be called up in 1940 later this was expanded to 18 and 41 year olds as the need arose so I guess your dad would probably have been called up at 20-22 in 1940....Similarly my Dad was conscripted into the RASC in 1940 at 20 years old.
