I thought Watson's pre match interview on Friday contained little hints he's starting to get on the front foot and feeling more comfortable as a leader in his new surroundings. Today's post match even more so. It takes time, especially given what he was replacing and the injury list.
Players seem happier and invested. Fans were immense today. Tasker and even Wilson are starting to reveal their potential with Flint making them feel safe. Middleton and Hayes are going to be a joy to watch.
I'd have taken 20 points from 20 games as I think we'll kick on and get maybe another 35 after that and finish plenty safe enough. Watson's 2nd season will be the one to look forward to. Despite the brutal bad luck there's plenty to feel positive about tonight. | | | |

Although it’s slightly hypocritical after a discussion at the game today about us having so many players and making do with what we have, noticed Max Clark was playing for the PFA teams recently. Always thought he was a solid left back.
However, if we can make it through next week with maybe Hannant or Francis at left back, TAR will be fine there until Beckwith hopefully returns soon. |

A lot of 'Jim's players' will be out of contract and Watson will have time to plan recruitment wise to bring in the profile of player that he wants.
From the highlights 26 pulls back Brown as he is about to head the ball and should have been a penalty. Down the other end I have no idea why Tobi pulls the player back as there was cover. [Post edited 26 Sep 21:58]

He was only here for a few months, turned down a contract to join Stevenage and won promotion 12 months later.

After some justifiable criticism following the Crawley game I thought IW got his substitutions spot on especially the introduction of Mani D and Rodney although perhaps Francis could have come on sooner.
Flint took his goal with real aplomb as well as producing a warrior like performance in defence. The man’s a winner.
The prospect of Smith and Middleton starting every week with Hayes coming onto to torment tiring defenders is a mouthwatering one.
The only slightly disappointing note was the way in which Fleetwood seized control of midfield midway through the first half.
And Lord knows who plays leftback on Saturday.
An away day to rank amongst the best though. Great atmosphere and a battling performance. | | | |

This is my view off the extended highlights only.
Did we use up all our luck last season, getting those last grasp winner. Certainly we can’t seen to catch a break (excuse the pun) around injuries. That said this was our best performance so far this season. Miles more competing than against Colchester and Walsall away. Adeeko and Gilmour are doing an admirable job in the middle, but a tweak in formation to give them some help is something to consider. Brown is now established for me. He hasn’t score many goals in his career, so two in two games must be doing wonders for his confidence. The conundrum of the wingers must be leaving Hannett and Silcott Duberry feeling a little neglected. If, tempting fate we have five wingers fit in January I can see one of them being shipped out. Mind you I thought the same about Sherring immediately before the Liverpool match and now he’s guaranteed a seat on the coach for the time being.
We are getting there and the strides we are making seem bigger each week. I have to credit Watson some would have crumbled under the pressure he was facing but he is standing up to it well. That’s a fine example to set the squad. It was mentioned on the latest podcast the fans were losing their identity to the team and I admit I and far from fluent yet at identifying each of the players. But changes are inevitable and have been exacerbated by the injuries to East,EEL, Beckwith and Petit. I am so much more hopeful than after the Crawley game. The lads are doing alright.

and to Bilongo, Jenkins, Ramming, Maguire - arguably Moss is the biggest loss plus Rodney, Smith, Hayes just coming back. Not sure about no luck - certainly had it against OIdham.
Yours is a fair reflection of Saturday - definitely our best performance; Flint immense, Middleton effective at both ends, Brown worked hard and took his goal well, Wilson's best game to date (with Flint's help), Adeeko, Taylor & Gilmour solid (& TAR ... till the silly 2nd yellow), Waller a real challenger to Ramming. Not convinced by Smith yet but I thought Tasker had a good game - he won some duels, drives forward well and his positioning will improve.
But as you say there is a strong need for an option that strengthens midfield; some of the recruitment still seems confused (too many wingers & Academy players, no LBs) & above all scrapping a successful squad and formation before trying it.
Definitely going in the right direction.
