I've found this gem on You Tube. The full match coverage of a Dale win at Burnley in September 1991. I wonder how many posters on here were there. I bet several weren't even born. Good to see Turf Moor as it was too.
From a time before the backpass rule was introduced and evidently scoreboards to, as Dale fans sang ‘one nil, one nil, one nil, one nil…’ in case any Burnley fans were unaware of the scoreline
It's interesting to listen to the songs the crowd sang back then. And it's jogged my memory. In the recent Oldham match we heard the "you're just a town full of pedos" song. Standard fayre these days and frowned upon.
Before this Burnley game and also in the days when everyone watched Granada Reports, there had been a media scoop on some Rochdale pedo racket on kids in a care home or something. My memory can't exactly recall.
You can hear the Burnley fans singing, "What's it like to shag your kids".
I remember in 1991 thinking it was quite a sharp piss take. These days there'd be a ten page thread taking offence to lambast insensitive Burnley fans. How times have changed!
Good to see Steve Whitehall up front wearing the No 2 shirt - surely a ruse to confound opponents.
And the legendary Alan Reeves at right back.
Jon Bowden was an excellent player for us. Was that Andy Flounders up front with Whitehall? Didn't Bowden later switch to be a striker?
Mrs Finberty came on a rare outing to this one. Her vivid recollection (and only recollection) was of a Burnley player crouched over a fallen Dale player, holding him by the throat and repeatedly banging said Dale player's head onto the ground. My memory, then and now, holds that the Burnley player was Roger Eli? (I've not gone back in detail to spot this incident).

It was Flounders at 9 that day.
The numbering system was quite something early on that season, that day it was:
Andy Milner wore 8 on the right. John Ryan in 3 on the left. Bowden and Mark Payne in midfield wearing 10 and 11 respectively. Jimmy Graham number 7 at left back. Alan Reeves in 5 at right back Tony Brown 4, Alex Jones 6, the centre halves. And of course Whitehall as a number 2 up front with Flounders.
From memory this all started preseason when Jimmy Graham returned to the side in the last friendly after Ryan had played left back previously wearing the traditional no.3. For some reason, Graham took 7 leaving only 2 for Whitehall when reversing these would have made more sense.
There’s some historical context to this as Graham had worn 11 for much of his time on loan during the Palace cup run season when playing at left back. He only started wearing his “proper” number 3 from ‘92ish.
Yes, this is detailed and pointless to most, I know.

Such a sad and disappointing end to what should've been our first play off season. Think we'd only lost 5 games all season up till Barnet away then we somehow lost 6 out of our last 9.
