I have vague memories of us playing Gateshead in the league in the season before they failed to be re-elected to the FL which was 1960 I think.
That was a real shock at the time as teams in the bottom four invariably got voted back in. (When Oxford were admitted in 1962 it was because Accrington had gone bust and resigned).
Gateshead were replaced by Peterborough who had a couple of remarkable cup runs which had really put them in the limelight.
It's a draw that I would have taken at 7.00pm last night put it that way.

Home tie - tick.

Lower league opposition tick.

We really cannot complain too much, it could have been a damn site worse!.

A gang of non league opponents on the way to a premier league team would be good. Very similar to last season.

These boys are no mugs. it will be a tough game.

They have won 9 league games and 4 FA cup ties already this season.

Bring our A game and we should be fine. Bromley not Telford please!!!!!

Mike Williamson plays for them - the ex Wycombe,Watford,(Portsmouth) and Newcastle defender.
Portsmouth signed him for £3 million pounds back in 2009 then went into administration! He left the following January having never played a game for them joining Newcastle United for £1 million where he spent 6 years and played 150 games in the Prem/Championship. Just noticed he played against us last season for Oxford at Spotland in the 0-0 draw with them. He's 34 now.

They’ve only played one FA Cup tie this season!

I didn't know that!

5th tier only join qualifying at 4th round stage? you learn something new eh.

9 league wins though and "no mugs" stands IMO.

Fifth tier clubs have joined at the fourth qualifying round for donkeys years, like clubs from tiers 1 & 2 joining at the third round stage.

Nobody has said they are 'no mugs' - not many clubs are at that level these days - but we sometimes forget we are two divisions above them and should win, as we've done against Bromley and Barrow in recent years.

Yes, we've got our issues at the moment, but we did last season when we put four past Bromley and four past Slough.

We just have to hope it's not another FC United/Telford/Scarborough/Droylsden, etc..... game, but every League club who has drawn non-league will be thinking exactly the same.

Perhaps we might have been had we drawn Gateshead away. Surprised Met Police aren't a TV game though.
