Yes it was dire but it was a friendly and Hodgson tried a few things out. What did we learn? Adam Lallana looks promising, Cahill for me should not be first choice. There are lots of teams out there that have players who are more comfortable in possession.
However the massive over reaction that will come from the media and some fans now is the reason England managers are afraid to experiment and stick with the same old, same old, that has got us nowhere for years.
On another note I hate the automatic booing after any defeat, that's across the board as well even at Dale. The modern football fan tut!

Agreed completely, we were poor, but the overreaction that surrounds every England defeat competitive or not is laughable.

What does the friendly confirm? England haven't strength in depth - take away the first choices and the reserves are poor. Young and inexperienced yes but poor compared to the top countries reserves

Would still like to see Ryan Shawcross given a proper chance.
It's also frustrating to see Jack Rodwell get no first team football as england are really crying out for a defensive minded midfielder to come in when the old guard finaly finish. Would much sooner see him at a lesser club but getting game time.
Glen Johnson has (and has always had) all the positional sense of excrement in a swimming pool.
Not heart broken about losing a friendly. We still have a good record overall under hodgson.
A fit front two of Sturridge and Rooney could be a force to contend with as both can create chances as well as score them.
Win and its a pointless friendly. Lose and it's the end of the world. As has been mentioned, Ukraine really have put the willys up France, so it wasn't too easy a group to qualify from. All England really learned is you have to defend well no matter who you play, and Chile are a good side.

As I said,a complete waste of time and effort.
Not a complete waste of time and effort, Hodgson tried certain things out tonight and will see that they haven't worked. If they had worked, then he would have had more options going forward.
What annoyed me the most about anything tonight was English people in my local cheering as England conceded a goal. Absolutely fuming. Could just tell they were United fans, not used to the concept of supporting a slightly unsuccessful side.
Tangled up in blue.

Its true, there are a minority of English people who actually revel in slagging off the team and go around boasting how they are not interested in them doing well, they are generally plastic football fans who attach themselves to Premiership clubs but obviously never go and watch them. They tend to spout drivel about football matters and convince themselves they are the font of all knowledge, "boring ba****ds" in other words!!
I am the first to have a pop at the Scottish but you have to admit they have some pride in their country and that's something that a minority in England don't have. You listen to the clap trap about foreigners taking over the country but these anti- English, English people would get rid of the Royal family, knock down all the historic buildings and basically just sell off our heritage.
England is still one of the greatest countries in the world, warts and all but for some its become a popular pastime to keep having a dig.
Anybody going to the Lancashire Fusiliers homecoming this Tuesday in the Town centre ?

There comes a time when after watching disappointment after disappointment, it stops hurting. You reach the stage where you grow accustomed to a set of players who at club level reach the highest standards but at the international stage they play more JPT than Champions League. Then, Gallows Humour kicks in and the national side does become a joke.
This has happened for years, and I struggle to count a decent England performance since the 5-1 in Germany. We now find ourselves with a side with far less quality than in recent years and results have steadied. We've done well to qualify and Hodgson has done a decent job. Rooney aside, would any of the current England lot have got in an England side of five to ten years ago? The reduction in quality has at least brought some honesty to the team, but we've got a bleak few years ahead of us.

don't expect anything from england anymore - the world cup is still going to be fun
germany are gonna go in dry on tuesday
the premiership has to much power now
and lol if anyone thinks our style of play is going to ever change
gareth fkin southgate manager of the young lads - we've employed foreign managers for the first team why not further down the chain
what the FA need to do is go headhunt the best coaches in germany/spain/south america and get them in with the youth teams and build from there - whatever it costs in 20 years time it will all be worth it

100% agree on Southgate. Still baffled as to how his appointment was a good idea for developing our young players.
